Evercade reveals new retro console refresh alongside higher capacity cartridge

Evercade has recently unveiled an updated version of its classic emulator gadgets, which includes a larger cartridge dubbed the “giga cart.”

Evercade has been dedicated to developing retro gaming devices over the past few years, utilizing a cartridge-based system to emulate older titles.

The Evercade EXP, which was our top choice for a retro gaming handheld in 2024, has been updated by the company. Additionally, an updated version of the Evercade VS console has also been announced.

Additionally, Evercade has prioritized their cartridge system by releasing a larger version that has the capacity to hold a greater amount of games simultaneously.

Evercade has recently introduced the Giga Cart, which boasts a larger storage capacity. This means that the company can now offer bigger and more contemporary retro games, including those that were originally released on a CD instead of a cartridge. This expansion of storage space will enable them to provide games from consoles such as the Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, Sega CD, and possibly even the PlayStation One.

These will come at a slightly higher price of $24.99, which is $5 more than the current cost for Evercade cartridges.

The latest VS-R and EXP-R consoles are now equipped to support larger capacity cartridges, while the EXP-R handheld has been given a reduced price of only $99.99.

Despite the addition of Giga Cart support, the EXP-R handheld and VS-R console remains similar to its predecessor. However, due to the removal of bundled Capcom games and HDMI out, it is no longer possible to play it on a TV or monitor.

Despite the changes, Evercade continues to have an advantage over other retro gaming consoles as it avoids the legal gray area of emulation. Numerous companies, including Namco, Atari, Codemasters, Team17, and DataEast, have licensed their games to be featured on Evercade cartridges.
