The highly anticipated Demon Slayer Hashira Training arc has finally arrived, and viewers are ecstatic after the release of the first episode. Those who are familiar with the source material know that this arc will not have as much action as previous arcs. Instead, it will act as a bridge to the next story arc, lacking a central antagonist.
All things considered, this particular plot point is crucial as it signifies the start of a full-scale battle between the demon hunters and Muzan’s powerful army of Upper Moon demons.
One of the main focal points of this arc is the unveiling of various characters’ backstories in the upcoming episodes. Many of these backstories will delve into the histories of the Hashiras, adding depth to their characters. Additionally, the article will touch upon the backstories of certain individuals, some of which have already been teased or uncovered in the anime.
Please be aware that this article contains major spoilers from the Demon Slayer manga chapters.
Demon Slayer: The Hashira Training Arc Unveils the Backstories of Intriguing Characters
In this arc, the focus will primarily be on Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira who has always kept his distance from the other Hashiras. Initially, it appeared that his isolation stemmed from a sense of arrogance.
Nevertheless, this is not entirely true, as the cause of his seclusion is uncovered by delving into his past. This pivotal moment in the Demon Slayer Hashira Training arc marks the beginning of his personal growth and transformation.
Despite being chased by a demon at a young age, Giyu’s life was saved by his elder sister. She selflessly sacrificed herself, diverting the demon’s attention away from him. This act of bravery was even more admirable as she was about to begin a new chapter in her life by getting married.
After some time, he eventually found his way to Sakonji Urokodaki, who became his mentor and taught him the ways of a demon hunter. During his training, he became close friends with Sabito, a highly skilled swordsman. Tragically, Sabito lost his life during the Final Selection while trying to save Giyu Tomioka. As a result, he struggles to connect with other Pillars as he sees himself as inferior due to his friend’s sacrifice.
In the Demon Slayer Hashira Training arc, Gyomei Himejima’s backstory is also intriguing. As a priest, he dedicated himself to caring for orphaned children. Despite his blind and frail appearance, he was fiercely protective of the kids under his care. However, one day, a young Kaigaku defied his orders and removed the Wisteria incense, leaving the temple vulnerable to a demon attack. The demon was able to enter and tragically devoured the children.
Despite his frail appearance, Gyomei was compelled to take action and displayed immense strength as he physically struck the demon for hours until sunrise. This ultimately led to the demon’s disintegration. Although Shinobu’s backstory will not be officially revealed in the Demon Slayer Hashira Training arc, it has been strongly suggested at this point in the manga.
Despite being the Insect Hashira, she still carries a deep-seated hatred within her. This stems from the traumatic experience she and her sister Kanae went through as children, witnessing their entire family being killed by demons. However, their lives were spared thanks to the timely intervention of Gyomei Himejima.
Shinobu and Kanae encounter a young girl who is on the verge of being sold. They immediately decide to buy her in order to save her life. The girl is then given the name Kanao Tsuyuri and eventually becomes Shinobu’s Tsukugo. Sadly, Shinobu’s elder sister was taken by Doma.
These are a few of the key backstories featured in the Demon Slayer Hashira Training arc. Fans are sure to appreciate these moments, as Ufotable has not wavered in its commitment to producing top-quality animation.
