Every Melee DPS Change in FFXIV: Dawntrail

The approaching Dawntrail in Final Fantasy XIV brings with it a new level cap, and as always, new job actions. Here is all the current information we have on the changes that will affect the melee DPS role.

The upcoming Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV is set to bring about significant changes. With additions such as a new MSQ, a new raid, and new job options, players are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to jump into the game.

One of the major updates in FFXIV: Dawntrail is the introduction of a higher level cap of 100. This will offer a wider range of skills and actions for jobs to utilize. Below is a breakdown of all the upcoming changes for melee DPS in the game.

Important Information

There are two upcoming changes for Melee DPS in Dawntrail. The initial change involves boosting the healing potency of Second Wind in the level 90s range. This adjustment should ease the burden on healers if they are unable to reach them.

In addition, the duration of Feint in the level 90s will be increased to 15 seconds, which is consistent with the increase in Reprisal.

Monk

The class Monk has undergone significant alterations in Dawntrail. Rather than focusing on simply refreshing the DoT and damage buff, Monks will now execute actions in a specific sequence to enhance their potency.

The developers state that the job should maintain a familiar feel while also alleviating pressure for players who are unsure of which action to take when their rotation is disrupted.

During the activation of Brotherhood, Monk will have the ability to collect a maximum of 10 Chakra, ensuring that their resources do not surpass their limit.

Dragoon

In a similar fashion, the class Dragoon in Dawntrail is undergoing a rework that will alter its gameplay. One of the changes includes the addition of a fifth combo action, which will no longer be a directional attack. This will decrease the need for precise positioning by players.

At the start of a battle, Life of the Dragon can be used without needing to build up any Dragon Gauge.

Ultimately, the developers aim to decrease the amount of inputs required for Dragoon’s burst phase by either eliminating specific actions or altering them to prevent this issue.

Ninja

The elimination of Huton is providing Ninja with beneficial quality-of-life enhancements. Huton will now be incorporated into a trait that will remain constantly activated, and the current button will be transformed into an area-of-effect attack that bestows Hidden.

Adjustments will be made to actions such as Armor Crush, which were originally used to prolong the duration of Huton’s effect, in order to align with the new changes.

Samurai

The class of Samurai has also undergone simplification, as Tsubame-gaeshi is now only able to be executed after using Meikyo Shisui.

As part of this update, Hakaze, Tenka Goken, and Midare Setsugekka will receive upgrades, potentially resulting in a more visually impressive appearance.

Angel of Death

The Shroud Gauge will no longer be increased by 50 from Reaper’s Plentiful Harvest effect. Instead, it will enable the use of Enshroud. This change will prevent Reapers from exceeding their limit within the two-minute window, providing a beneficial improvement to the class.

Furthermore, Reapers will now have access to a fresh action when they use Enshroud.

Viper

The latest addition to Dawntrail’s class roster is Viper. This class centers around Dexterity stats and will have the same armor as Ninja.

Viper’s combos and abilities will incorporate a combination of dual blades and double-bladed strikes. The development of this new class also took into consideration the issue of button overload, resulting in a reduced number of actions needed on the hotbar.
