Everything except for Toei— Latest Dragon Ball Daima news still not enough for fans to let Toei off the hook

Despite the official announcement of the Dragon Ball series last year and the release of action figures featuring Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo, fans are still discontent with the lack of marketing surrounding Daima. The action figures have not appeased their frustrations.

Despite the overall positive response from the fandom towards the products, Toei is still being held accountable for their treatment of Daima. For those unfamiliar with the situation, the justified reaction from Dragon Ball fans is a result of the treatment of Daima.

Despite being the last project that author Akira Toriyama worked on before his passing on March 1, 2024, this project has received minimal promotion, much like the Super Hero film in 2022. As a result, it has left a negative impression on audiences.

Please note that this article contains spoilers for the series.

Dragon Ball Fans Demand Accountability from Toei Despite Positive Reception of Daima Action Figures

Despite the positive reception from fans, Toei’s lack of promotion and marketing for the Daima project has not gone unnoticed. Recently announced, the new set of action figures featuring characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo in their Daima forms have sparked further criticism from fans.

Despite being the last creative project of author Akira Toriyama before his unfortunate passing on March 1st, this anime holds a special emotional significance. However, Toei has not invested much in promoting the anime through visuals, trailers, or other means, which has affected the overall excitement for the project.

Similarly, the marketing of the 2022 film, Super Hero, has only added to the frustration of the fandom, which is nothing new. Despite its strong global appeal and brand recognition, this franchise seems to be doing a disservice to its legacy by not promoting itself effectively.

Online Reactions

The Dragon Ball fandom’s overall dissatisfaction, considering the circumstances, is reasonable. As a legendary institution in the anime and manga industry, this franchise has maintained cultural and commercial relevance for many decades. Therefore, it is only logical for companies like Toei to effectively promote their new production.

The comments on X regarding this news have revealed that Tamashii Nations, the company responsible for producing these toys, has heavily marketed Daima compared to Toei. This observation is significant as the figures have received a positive response, indicating that Toei could have benefited from promoting the project more.

“Tamashii Nations has better marketing than Toei,”someone said.

“W! ! NOW WE JUST NEED BETTER MARKETING FROM TOEI”another person said.

“Bro is doing the marketing for them,”someone else said.

Additional key visuals and trailers may have been able to alleviate some of the criticisms surrounding Dragon Ball Daima, specifically the accusation that it is a copycat of GT due to its premise of Goku and his companions transforming into children.

There is potential for this project to be interesting for the franchise by incorporating and expanding upon ideas such as the Demon Clan.

“We got Daima figures before the anime,”someone said.

“THEY REALLY GIVING US EVERYTHING BUT A TRAILER”another person said.

Despite a lack of marketing, the primary focus should still be on the quality of the series. It is our hope that Dragon Ball Daima will pay tribute to Akira Toriyama’s life and legacy.
