Stardew Valley’s mastermind, Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, has recently unveiled his upcoming game, and here’s all the information we have so far on Haunted Chocolatier, including the storyline, gameplay features, and the official announcement trailer.
After the successful release of the popular farming simulator Stardew Valley in 2016, fans eagerly anticipated ConcernedApe’s next project.
In early 2020, the solo game developer hinted at upcoming projects, and on October 21, 2021, he made the big reveal of his latest venture: Haunted Chocolatier. Here’s all the information we have on the game so far.

On October 21, 2021, ConcernedApe unveiled the game’s announcement trailer, featuring gameplay footage and introducing new characters such as Lily, blacksmith Burk, Maddie, and Jett.
Is there a release date for Concerned Ape’s Haunted Chocolatier?
Despite the lack of a set release date, Haunted Chocolatier is currently in development. ConcernedApe, the game’s lone developer, announced that development began in 2020, so the game may still be a while away from completion.
In an early blog post, he explained that he has been primarily focused on developing the core components of the game and has yet to delve into the more exciting elements.
In August 2024, ConcernedApe posted another update on Twitter, explaining that he had not been working on Haunted Chocolatier as he was focused on completing Stardew 1.6. He apologized to console and mobile players in a longer tweet.
Despite being released on PC in March 2024, the game’s 1.6 update has yet to be made available on other platforms. As there is currently no announcement of a release date or window, it may be some time before ConcernedApe can resume development on Haunted Chocolatier.
Supported Platforms
According to Haunted Chocolatier’s FAQ section, the only current platform for the release of Haunted Chocolatier is on PC. However, the creator has stated that they have plans to bring the game to other major platforms in the future, though it may not be available at the initial launch.

About Haunted Chocolatier
The developer has remained secretive about the storyline of his upcoming game. However, what has been revealed is that players will take on the role of a chocolatier who runs a confectionery store located within a haunted castle.
You produce your own chocolate by collecting ingredients and creating recipes, which you then sell. In a blog post, ConcernedApe shared that the game is similar to other “town games”where players move to a new town and adapt to a different lifestyle, but it also offers unique features that set it apart from Stardew Valley.
Detailed Gameplay
Although Haunted Chocolatier may have a similar pixel art style to Stardew Valley at first glance, it is actually quite distinct. While both games involve interacting with townspeople in a town setting, Haunted Chocolatier replaces the cozy farmhouse with a foreboding castle.
The game, which is designed for solo players, falls under the genre of action RPG. Combat is a major aspect of the gameplay, as players must vanquish foes such as slimes and crows while also searching for ingredients. These ingredients can then be used in the player’s kitchen to create chocolate. The game also includes a boss battle against a massive bee, as shown in a screenshot.

It seems possible to invite townspeople to your castle and engage in personal interactions with the villagers, including the option to select conversation choices.

In September 2023, a visitor was disclosed as ConcernedApe stuck to his usual routine of sharing one new screenshot at a time. In the screenshot, an old man can be seen waking up from what he describes as a “horrible nightmare.”
One possible theory is that he is the same Grandpa from Stardew Valley, indicating a connection between the two worlds. Only time will tell if this is true.
