Season 2 of the highly anticipated Peacemaker series, featuring John Cena and produced by HBO, is currently in development. This exciting spinoff follows the characters and storylines introduced in James Gunn’s successful Suicide Squad movie, which garnered significant acclaim from DC fans.
Since the conclusion of Season 1, a considerable amount of time has passed, during which Gunn has focused on expanding the DC Universe and directing a new Superman film. As the audience eagerly awaits the next chapter, here’s an overview of what we know about Peacemaker Season 2.
Release Date for Peacemaker Season 2
Currently, there is no official release date for Peacemaker Season 2; however, it is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. Filming commenced on April 13, as confirmed by Gunn through his Threads account.
Although Gunn has reduced his activity on Twitter, he continues to engage with fans via Instagram and Threads, sharing updates about the writing and production phases since last fall.
Given the current schedule, it is plausible that the new season may not debut for another year or two. It is essential to note that Gunn has indicated that his immediate priority is the Superman film, also set for release in 2025.
Adding to the intrigue, Gunn has hinted at integrating Peacemaker into the broader DC Universe, emphasizing his enthusiasm for this endeavor: “Because it’s my favorite thing to do, it’s the biggest original Max show ever, and I have a way in. It won’t be confusing.”
Returning Cast for Season 2
The second season will see the return of many favorite characters from the first season, ensuring continuity for fans. The core cast is set to include:
- John Cena as Peacemaker/Christopher Smith
- Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo
- Freddie Stroma as Vigilante/Adrian Chase
- Jennifer Holland as Emelia Harcourt
- Steve Agee as John Economos
- Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
- Sol Rodriguez as Sasha Bordeaux
- Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury
- David Denman
On May 10, Gunn confirmed on Threads that Frank Grillo would reprise his role as Rick Flag Sr. Additionally, Sol Rodriguez was cast as Sasha Bordeaux, a character known from the comics as a martial artist and an A.R.G.U.S. agent, previously linked with Bruce Wayne. Tim Meadows will portray Langston Fleury, another A.R.G.U.S. agent debuting in the series.
David Denman, widely recognized for his role as Roy from The Office, has also joined the cast, although his specific role remains a mystery.
What to Expect in Season 2
The first season of Peacemaker successfully concluded various story arcs, notably featuring a dramatic finale with Harcourt’s brush with death and a startling cameo from the Justice League. The story left viewers with Peacemaker returning to a life intertwined with unexpected twists.
Details about the plot for Season 2 are still under wraps, but Gunn has teased that Peacemaker and Rick Flag Sr. will have “a little unfinished business,” referring to the complicated history between them after Peacemaker’s actions in The Suicide Squad.
Moreover, while this new season is a sequel, it will not seamlessly fit into the emerging DC Universe as Gunn indicated that only certain elements from Season 1 will remain canon, with the entire framework of Season 2 unfolding after the events of his Superman project.
Fans can anticipate more of the signature humor, violence, and dark themes that characterized the first season, keeping true to the essence of the DC Universe.
