Ex-Chipotle worker says he lost job over vengeful order but customer has receipts

A previous employee of Chipotle has revealed that he was fired for intentionally sabotaging an order as payback, but the customer had proof of their purchase.

Eli, known as ‘lifeaccordingtoeli’ on TikTok, used the social media platform to reveal to his 145,500 followers the story of how he was let go from his position at Chipotle.

In early November 2023, Eli claimed that the incident occurred when he was working at Chipotle, where he believed the restaurant was about to close. However, at that moment, a “massive”online order was received for “12 different bowls”.

Feeling uncertain about his actions, Eli made the decision to seek revenge after one of the bowls asked for extra sour cream. He continued to add more and more scoops of sour cream onto the bowl.

Eli admitted that the bowl was not edible at all by the time he finished it. He acknowledged that he had made a big mistake and compounded the situation by sharing a photo of his creation on Snapchat with his friends.

Although Eli found the bowl of sour cream he had prepared to be hilarious, the customer, Becca, did not share the same sentiment. She shared a photo of the bowl on her TikTok account, which quickly went viral and received over eight million views. Commenters criticized Chipotle, causing a major public relations problem for the company.

As a result, Eli’s boss uncovered the incident and brought him to his office. There, he was not only presented with Becca’s video, but also with approximately 20 emails from corporate Chipotle and security footage of Eli preparing the bowl and then taking a Snapchat of it.

Despite his initial denial, Eli eventually admitted that the order had been purposely made incorrectly. In order to avoid being fired, he resigned from his job. However, his recollection of the events was inaccurate, and Becca was not willing to overlook this.

After watching his story-time video, she uploaded a slideshow on TikTok to

Becca not only posted receipts but also left a comment on Eli’s video, clarifying that she was a teacher and struggling to afford even one bowl, let alone 12. In response, Eli acknowledged that he may have misremembered, stating that he thought it was a large order with multiple items.

He apologized, saying, “I regret taking my frustration out on you, assuming that is the case.”In response to a comment stating that Becca had exposed Eli’s story as false, he admitted, “I’ve shared this story with numerous people and I may have confused the facts.”

“It was discovered that I had mistakenly interfered with her order without justification, resulting in me rightfully losing my job.”
