A former developer from Rockstar Games has clarified the reason for the studio’s lack of response to leaks about GTA 6. They mentioned that these leaks hold less significance than fans may believe.
In recent years, there have been numerous rumors and reports surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6. While most of these have turned out to be false, there have also been a few reliable sources revealing concrete information.
In 2022, Rockstar faced a major setback when a series of leaks exposed early testing of their highly-anticipated game. These leaks revealed the game’s two main characters, certain mission details, and provided another glimpse into the expansive Vice City setting. This was then followed by the premature release of the first trailer, which was intended to go live at a later time.
Despite the GTA developers and Take-Two, their publishers, confirming that the big leaks have not greatly affected the game’s release, the developers did suffer a significant blow to their morale.
Obbe Vermeij, who worked on every GTA game between GTA III and Chinatown Wars as a former Rockstar developer, does not believe the leaks hold much significance.
“During an interview with the SanInPlay YouTube channel on July 23, Vermeij stated that the significance of leaks is often overestimated. This is simply due to the fact that there is a large audience eagerly anticipating news from Rockstar, who may not always provide updates.”

“Moreover, I can completely empathize with the decision to do so because whenever a major corporation such as Rockstar, EA, or Ubisoft makes a statement, it is scrutinized and often portrayed in a negative light,”added the former GTA developer.
From their perspective, remaining quiet is their only option as the situation has turned negative. Unfortunately, this is the current state of affairs, and it cannot be solely attributed to them. The public plays a role as well, constantly attacking the larger companies. Thus, staying silent is their best course of action.
Despite the lack of further details, fans of GTA are becoming increasingly impatient, with some speculating that Rockstar is dropping hints through GTA Online.
