Despite the excitement surrounding GTA 6 and its potential to be one of the biggest games of all time, a former Rockstar employee has cautioned that players may experience some initial disappointment upon its release.
In December 2023, Rockstar Games caused a sensation on the internet by releasing an unprecedented trailer for GTA 6, providing players with their initial glimpse of a contemporary Vice City.
Despite this, the studio has continued to maintain a low profile, with the exception of its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, who recently announced a projected release window of Fall 2025.
While Rockstar fans eagerly anticipate more updates, Obbe Vermeij, a former developer, recently sat down for an interview with YouTuber ‘SanInPlay’ to discuss game development and the highly anticipated GTA VI.
Despite leaving Rockstar in 2009, Vermeij stated that he was impressed by the trailer and had no insider information. However, he did express some concerns about how the game would be received upon its launch.
The segment starts at 32:05.
“According to him, the upcoming game may not differ significantly from GTA 5. He believes that initial reactions may be underwhelming, but ultimately, it will still be the top game in the market.”
Later on, he further elaborated on this point, explaining that although Rockstar has the capability to achieve it, the expectations for GTA 6 are extremely high and the current technology has not progressed enough to facilitate a leap similar to the ones seen from GTA 2 to GTA 3 and San Andreas to GTA 4.
Despite this, the previous developer also acknowledged how well the Vice City setting and the overall Florida man concept fit in with GTA.
“There have been rumors circulating about the development of new technology involving animation and AI. I believe it is time for a revolutionary shift towards animation that is primarily driven by AI and physics. If anyone is capable of making this leap, it is likely to be Rockstar.”
