Ex-SECRET Song Jieun Opens Up About Devastating Career Turn — ‘I Didn’t Expect the Group’s Disbandment…’

On April 17, Song Ji-eun, who was previously a member of the K-pop girl group Secret, shared her struggles with coping with the disappointment of her dream coming to an end.

This discovery was made by watching a video on the YouTube channel ‘Mic Impact’ titled ‘WERACLE Park Wi Secret Song Ji-eun Shares about Overcoming Life’s Surprises,’ which showcased Song Ji-eun and her fiancé, Park Wi, a well-known YouTuber.

“Becoming a singer on TV has been my dream since I was a child,”Song Ji-eun shared. “I devoted my school years to pursuing my goal and eventually debuted when I was 20. I achieved my dream.”

Lost Sense of Direction

Despite her dream of becoming a singer, she experienced unexpected emotions.

Song Ji-eun confessed, “My dream of becoming a singer had a specific shape. It was not something that could span an entire life. So, after becoming a singer, I suddenly felt like I had lost my sense of purpose in life. I felt quite lost during my twenties.”

Unexpected Twists

The singer continued, “Then, circumstances happened where I couldn’t continue my singing career. My dream vanished, and I felt like it would never come true again. I thought, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t limit my dreams to a specific shape.”

In light of the group’s dissolution, Song Ji-eun conveyed her thoughts:

“I was in a girl group for a long time. And I had some expectations for the direction of my life. I didn’t expect the group’s disbandment, yet it happened anyway. That’s when I realized that life doesn’t always go as expected.”

Finding New Perspectives

Commenting on the ability to turn adversity into opportunity, Song Ji-eun stated:

“Maybe it was a chance to change my life for the better. ‘This might be an opportunity,’ and, ‘My life is a failure,’ are very different views.”

She ended her speech with an optimistic message, stating:

“When faced with an unexpected turn in life, remember that it may be an opportunity presenting itself.”

Ever since its debut in 2009 under TS Entertainment, Secret had to pause its activities in 2016 as a result of a disagreement with the agency. However, with the closure of TS Entertainment in January 2021, Song Ji-eun has embarked on a new chapter in her career by joining WERACLE Factory, established by her fiancé Park Wi, seizing fresh opportunities and embarking on a new journey.
