Former cruiserweight world champion Johnny Nelson has responded to Tyson Fury’s statement that he was “bashed”when he moved up to the heavyweight division. Nelson disagrees with Fury’s claim and predicts that Fury will lose points in the upcoming fight against Oleksandr Usyk, which he believes will be a contentious match.
On Saturday, May 18, Fury and Usyk will face off for the opportunity to be crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Nelson believes that the upcoming bout is likely to be the biggest boxing event of the year, but he also anticipates a controversial ending that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
Tyson Fury has publicly acknowledged his use of the elbow when fighting [Francis] Ngannou. It is not uncommon for Fury to utilize various techniques, including elbows and forearms, to gain an advantage in a fight.
“That’s what he’s always relied on and that’s why [Deontay] Wilder and his previous opponents have all complained about it. He continues to do it and gets away with it.”

Nelson was adamant that Usyk’s knack for applying immense pressure on his opponents would force Fury to rely on the controversial tactics commonly known as the “dark arts”of boxing.
Continuing, he explained that we can trace back to the beginning of his career and observe that when faced with pressure from a skilled opponent, such as Usyk, he tends to fall back into his usual style. Usyk is particularly skilled at forcing his opponents to work at a pace they are uncomfortable with, ultimately causing them to resort back to their typical tendencies. This is what is likely to occur in this situation.
For instance, consider the fight between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather. Hatton accused the referee of not allowing them to continue the fight as they wanted. The referee enforced clean boxing rules after Mayweather and his team complained about Hatton’s holding down tactics.
It is important for Usyk’s team to communicate with the officials, referee, and judges to ensure that Fury follows the rules and performs fairly.
If the referee and judges fulfill their duties, Tyson will have to box fairly and rely on his skills to win.
“Tyson will reach that level only when the fight becomes challenging for him and he is dissatisfied with its progress; at that point, it becomes a test of skill against skill.”

“Therefore, I believe that this will result in a contentious victory,”he added. “In my opinion, both boxers possess enough agility and expertise to avoid being knocked out. While Tyson has a stronger punch than Usyk, it ultimately comes down to skill.”
“Based on this mindset, I anticipate a contentious conclusion to the fight. Whether Tyson Fury is awarded the decision and does not deserve it, or he is denied the decision and believes he deserved it, I believe there will be points deducted from him.”
Will Tyson Fury Disappear if He Loses to Oleksandr Usyk?
The victor of the match will emerge as the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis accomplished the title in 1999.
In response to inquiries about the potential impact of the fight on the division and the fighters’ futures, Nelson emphasized that a defeat for Fury could mark the conclusion of The Gypsy King’s career in the boxing world.
“According to him, in the event that Tyson Fury suffers a major defeat, the statements from promoters, the amount of money offered, and the actions of his team or anyone else will not make a difference. Mentally, Tyson Fury will struggle to move on from being defeated by this ‘short, jumped up, gapped teeth cruiserweight’.”

He will personally face difficulties in handling the situation, which will ultimately cause him pain and destruction. This is because he is known to be a passionate and transparent fighter. Others may attempt to manipulate or disguise the truth.
Despite being part of the squad, Tyson Fury remains in complete control and holds the ultimate authority. Therefore, if he suffers a major defeat, it would not be unexpected for him to leave and disappear from the public eye.
Tyson Fury: Johnny Nelson got bashed at heavyweight
With a reputation for never shying away from controversy, Fury launched into a passionate tirade on the significance of size in the history of heavyweight boxing and its impact on the division.
The individual, who is 35 years old, specifically referenced Nelson and alleged that the ex-cruiserweight was “bashed”when he moved up to the heavyweight division.

Despite sharing Fury’s overall sentiment, Nelson did not fully agree with the WBC champion upon learning about the allegations being made.
Upon receiving a few phone calls while on holiday in St Lucia, Nelson stated that he had been mentioned by Tyson Fury. He expressed his admiration for Fury’s knowledge of boxing history, but pointed out that Fury’s statement was factually incorrect.
Despite being a cruiserweight, I often challenged myself by fighting against heavyweights. However, I was not always defeated in these matchups.
“I earned an obscure and trivial heavyweight title in Australia, proving my skill against other heavyweights. He never made any statements that I hadn’t already made myself.”
I stated that a top cruiserweight has the ability to defeat the majority of heavyweights. However, the only heavyweights they may struggle against are the top ones, as they may have a disadvantage in terms of weight, height, reach, power, or other factors. Therefore, top cruiserweights will typically come out on top against most heavyweights until they reach the top level.
“He simply reiterated what I have always known, as I am aware of my capabilities. If it were possible for me to compete as a heavyweight, I would have already taken that opportunity.”
As a cruiserweight champion, I was confident in my abilities and held the title with pride. I was the ruler of my domain. However, when I became the world heavyweight champion, I did not feel the same sense of ownership over my title.
The week leading up to the Fury vs Usyk fight started off with a controversial incident. On Monday, May 13th, in a crowded hotel lobby, John Fury, Tyson’s father, headbutted a member of Usyk’s team.
Former world boxing champion Carl Froch labeled Fury Sr as a “clown”due to his behavior.
