Ex-YouTube Gaming Boss Urges Streamers to Multi-Stream on Twitch

The ex-leader of YouTube’s gaming partnerships is advocating for an increase in streamers using Twitch, following the recent move by TimTheTatman and Dr Lupo to begin multi-streaming.

On September 1, the internet was abuzz as TimTheTatman and Dr Lupo, two popular streamers, made their return to Twitch. This came as a surprise, as both had previously signed exclusivity deals with YouTube.

Upon their return, both streamers experienced a surge in viewership on Twitch, surpassing even their numbers on YouTube as they kicked off their multi-stream venture.

While streaming, TimTheTatman expressed his gratitude to YouTube for their support, but also praised multi-streaming and encouraged everyone to utilize multiple platforms.

According to him, “I believe multi-casting is the future. Many individuals have been inquiring, ‘Tim, which platform should I stream on?’ My answer is to be present on all platforms. After all, why limit yourself?”

The video was posted on X by esports expert Jake Lucky and it captured the interest of Ryan ‘Fwiz’ Wyatt, the former head of gaming at YouTube, who echoed Tim’s thoughts.

“Wyatt acknowledged Twitch’s decision to relax their partner policy, which allowed individuals to stream on various platforms. He commended their actions and noted that multi-casting was the appropriate response.”

At TwitchCon 2023, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy revealed that the platform would now permit multi-streaming, following pressure from popular creators such as Ninja. This change has been embraced by numerous streamers, including Fwiz, who sees no reason why anyone wouldn’t take advantage of the updated guidelines.

“He encouraged expanding one’s reach, noting the abundance of excellent software available that makes the process effortless.”

Despite his personal opposition to streaming on multiple sites, even Ludwig, who is known to be critical of multistreaming, acknowledges that it is the most beneficial choice for up-and-coming creators.

He acknowledged, “I believe it’s not wise to limit yourself to one platform when you’re trying to grow. It makes perfect sense to aim for a larger viewership to reach more people, increase profit, or achieve your other goals.”
