A former world champion from Jake Paul’s weight class is amenable to a match with the YouTuber-turned-boxer if the financial terms are favorable, as he expresses concern regarding Mike Tyson’s health.
Criticism has been plentiful regarding Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with Mike Tyson. Numerous boxers, both current and past, along with commentators and fans, have highlighted the significant age difference between the two fighters as a substantial concern.
In addition, Tyson’s health issues have been well-documented. The 58-year-old had to withdraw from their originally scheduled fight on July 20 due to an ulcer flare-up just before a cross-country journey. ‘Iron’ Mike has since remarked that it is “hard to walk” during his training camp and described himself as feeling “a little shaky.”
Both Jake and Mike are optimistic about being in fighting condition by November. Jake hasn’t considered a backup fighter for this event.
However, should the need arise, former Cruiserweight world champion Tony ‘The Bomber’ Bellew has expressed interest in stepping in.
“I’ve got no real hunger or desire to face Jake Paul if I’m being totally honest,” he stated in a conversation with AceOdds. “Do I want to? No, not really. But would I? Yes. Everyone’s got a price.
“I would, yeah, absolutely, but do I want to? Not really, no.”
Jake Paul will challenge boxing legend Mike Tyson live on Netflix this November.
The former Cruiserweight champion has been vocal about his criticisms of Jake over the years and shares concerns for Mike’s well-being.
“When you’ve got to pull out because of health reasons, then the writing’s on the wall really, isn’t it? That’s just me speaking out loud, but I hope he doesn’t,” he added. “I just hope he’s healthy. That’s all I hope for.”
Jake and Mike have intensified their promotional efforts for the fight, having appeared at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. This matchup is also poised to be Jake’s last fight before he transitions to MMA for his debut with the PFL.
