Jung Ilhoon Makes a Triumphant Return to Music with New Single “Lullaby”
Jung Ilhoon, former member of the popular K-pop group BTOB, has officially re-entered the music scene after a challenging hiatus, releasing his latest single titled “Lullaby.” This marks his first musical offering in five years, following a transition out of the industry in 2020 amid allegations surrounding cannabis use.
Announcement of His Comeback
On November 21, Jung took to social media to express his excitement and gratitude to his supporters. “Hello, everyone. It’s been a while. I’m greeting you again with my single ‘Lullaby.’ Thank you sincerely to the fans who supported me during this long wait,” he shared.
He went on to acknowledge the invaluable support from those around him, stating, “It feels like this moment is one we’ve all dreamed of together, making it all the more emotional. Please support me going forward. Thank you so much, and I love you.”

Personal and Legal Challenges
This single also serves as Jung’s first work since “Spoiler (Feat. Babylon)” in 2019 and represents a significant step in his return to the K-pop landscape after navigating through legal and personal hurdles. Jung Ilhoon, born on October 4, 1994, turned 30 this year and celebrated with a three-day art exhibition titled “tiny ark” held in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, from October 4 to 6. The event allowed him to connect with fans and showcase his artistic side through the unveiling of his creative journey.
Legal Troubles and Rehabilitation
Jung’s challenges became public knowledge in December 2020 when he faced prosecution for purchasing and using marijuana on multiple occasions between July 2016 and January 2019, with expenditures totaling around 130 million KRW. This led to his departure from BTOB and an initial prison sentence of two years, coupled with a significant fine of approximately 133 million KRW.
However, during his appeal, the court revised the sentence to a two-year prison term, now with a three-year probation period, accompanied by mandated drug rehabilitation (40 hours) and a reduced fine of 126.63 million KRW. The court’s decision took into account Jung’s voluntary end of drug use in early 2019, his clean criminal record, his commitment to rehabilitation, and the support of his family.
Reflections on the Past
Throughout the legal proceedings, Jung submitted 88 letters of remorse, which he hoped would influence the court’s leniency. After his release, he extended a public apology to his fans via social media, reflecting on his time in detention and expressing heartfelt regret about his past choices. “I regret my actions and will do my best to live correctly from now on, ensuring that I never hurt anyone again,” he wrote.
In his message, Jung emphasized his commitment to steer clear of similar mistakes in the future while seeking to rebuild trust with his fans and society: “As much harm as I caused to society and disappointment to those who believed in me, I will strive to live righteously. I will carefully watch over myself and my surroundings to ensure I make the right choices.”
Looking Ahead
Since his release, Jung Ilhoon has largely maintained a low profile but has offered glimpses into his life and work through social media updates. With the recent success of his exhibition and the launch of “Lullaby,” many are wondering if this signifies a full return to the limelight for the artist.
