A new Cyberpunk anime has been announced by Netflix, promising to take fans back to the iconic Night City. Here’s everything we know about this exciting project.
Cyberpunk 2077 has taken the gaming community by storm, winning over millions of fans globally. The game continues to thrive post its massive 2.0 overhaul update and the critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty DLC.
The captivating essence of the futuristic dystopian Night City was encapsulated by Netflix in 2022 with the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. This anime not only enriched the game’s narrative but also expanded its fanbase, bringing Cyberpunk back into the spotlight.
Following the success of Edgerunners, Netflix Animation is once again partnering with CD Projekt RED to unveil a new Cyberpunk anime. During the recent Netflix Geeked Week, the official @netflix account on X shared a brief teaser featuring iconic glitches from the game along with the message, “Return to Night City,” teasing the upcoming series.

While this new series may not be a continuation of Edgerunners, since its storyline reached a conclusion towards the finale, fans are hopeful for a sequel. One enthusiastic fan commented, “Edgerunners won Anime of the Year, so it felt like just a matter of time before a sequel got confirmed. It was too incredible for it to be just a ‘one and done’.”
Another fan expressed, “Edgerunners battered and bruised my soul… but f**k it, we’re back in Night City!”
Conversely, some fans are wishing for the series to pick up from the game’s ending; however, that is quite unlikely due to the multiple endings based on player decisions.
Even though Edgerunners concluded with a definitive storyline, this new project may not just be another season of that series. Instead, it could be set within the same universe, featuring a fresh cast of characters. It would be interesting to see perspectives from a Corpo or a Nomad this time, as opposed to the usual Street Kid background.
If we dare to dream a little bigger, it could potentially be set during the timeline of the Phantom Liberty DLC, which not only returns us to Night City but also introduces new locations like Dogtown and additional storylines waiting to be discovered.
No matter the direction it takes, fans of both Cyberpunk and anime are in for an exhilarating experience when the new show is finally announced along with its release date.
