The inclusion of a reference to hip hop artist MF DOOM in Valve’s Summer Update for Team Fortress 2 has caused the update to go viral.
Despite its iconic status, TF2 has faced a difficult period in recent months as it garnered negative attention in 2024. Fans, disappointed with the game’s state, even launched a petition to “save TF2″and proceeded to give the beloved hero shooter negative reviews.
Despite TF2’s annual Summer Update approaching, players were pleased to learn that the beloved comic, which had been inactive for seven years, was finally being worked on.
Upon the arrival of the Summer Update, which includes 10 fresh maps and a plethora of cosmetics, fans were quick to recognize a new hat that pays homage to the infamous rap villain of the internet.

The Vaudeville Visor was added to the Summer Update as part of the Summer 2024 Cosmetic Case, created by ‘DJ L3G3ND’, ‘pidialski’, and ‘warcourse’.
Any true fan of rap music would recognize that the name is a direct nod to MF DOOM’s album Vaudeville Villain, which he released under the alias Viktor Vaughn.
Furthermore, the thumbnail in its Steam Workshop post is a clear homage to the iconic collaborative album between MF DOOM and Madlib, Madvillainy.
Essentially, the hat, or more accurately, the helmet, is a clear nod to the movie Gladiator. The unique headpiece, featuring spikes and a mohawk, was directly inspired by the film.

Despite this, for those who are not familiar, the mask worn by DOOM was originally a customized adaptation of the helmet from the film. The face piece was repurposed and utilized as a mask.
A great aspect of this surprising mention is that it features a well-known TF2 clip from last year, which showcases an old professional montage accompanied by a questionable MC performance and an MF DOOM instrumental.
