Overwatch 2’s highly anticipated Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) is set to return in 2025, introducing fresh in-game content for dedicated esports enthusiasts who fondly remember the team skins from the Overwatch League (OWL) era.
Prior to its discontinuation, OWL inspired the creation of cosmetics that showcased winning teams and standout players, with representation from teams like the Boston Uprising and Seoul Dynasty featuring prominently in Overwatch and its sequel.
Following a tumultuous period marked by uncertainty and controversy, Blizzard Entertainment made the decision to conclude the Overwatch League in January 2024, soon after launching the OWCS.
The transition to the OWCS marks a new chapter for esports, embracing an open tournament structure that moves away from the franchise model of the past. While fans are eager for the return of team skins—a beloved feature from OWL’s six-season legacy—the new format aims to invigorate engagement within the esports community.

Importantly, Blizzard has announced plans to reintroduce team-themed cosmetic bundles with the return of OWCS in 2025. An update from Overwatch Esports confirmed that during the latter half of the 2025 OWCS season, players will have the opportunity to support their favorite teams through dedicated in-game bundles.

Each OWCS partner will receive a unique in-game team pack that showcases their branding and colors through specially designed skins and additional items, as detailed in the recent blog post.
Further announcements regarding participating partners, team skins, and other exciting updates are anticipated as the OWCS 2025 season approaches.

This development highlights Blizzard’s reaffirmed dedication to the sustainability of Overwatch esports, a commitment especially noteworthy amidst the backdrop of the ongoing World Finals 2024 event. Kicking off on November 22 and concluding on November 24, this inaugural finals promises to capture the excitement of fans.
The OWCS launched with tremendous potential earlier this year, demonstrated by the Dallas Major event in May that attracted an impressive 125,146 viewers for the face-off between Toronto Defiant and Crazy Raccoon. The combination of finals excitement and the announcement of new team skins could lead to a spectacular conclusion for the OWCS in its inaugural season.
