Despite Chanyeol sharing his first encounter with junior artist NCT Wish through a new vlog, this sparked yet another wave of criticism and negativity towards the EXO member.
What was the cause?
A new video was posted on EXO’s official YouTube channel on August 20, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Chanyeol’s participation in The Korean Memorial Festa and the 2024 TMEA Music Festival.
In the 13-minute vlog, one particular scene that caught the attention of K-pop fans was when the idol shared footage from his time in Macau during his participation in TMEA. At the backstage, he had a pre-arranged meeting with NCT Wish and they took a commemorative photo together.
Despite the noticeable distance between Chanyeol and his junior, he took on the role of a caring senior and inquired about the rookie boy group:
“Did you perform well?”
Despite experiencing some awkwardness, possibly due to the age gap and it being their first solo meeting, the EXO member proceeded to say:
“I feel so awkward, take a photo of us quickly.”
As the photo was captured, Chanyeol let out one final cheer and exclaimed, “Let’s do this,”before bidding farewell with a wave.
Upon uploading this specific scene on X, a multitude of global Eris (fans of EXO) and WISHzens (NCT Wish fandom) were overjoyed at witnessing the interaction, especially since many members, including Yushi, aspired to become idols due to their admiration for EXO.
Nevertheless, the Koreans reacted differently compared to the aforementioned reaction. Chanyeol faced an onslaught of hateful comments after encountering SM’s youngest group.
Upon viewing the video, he received criticism for speaking informally to the members. Fans expressed that he should set a positive example by showing respect towards even younger idols.
As a result, his previous scandals involving cheating and gaslighting were once again discussed. This served as a reminder of why he should distance himself from NCT Wish and why he does not deserve to be recognized as their senior.
Fuck, I’m so ashamed of the past where I loved you. Please just live your life and don’t approach kids who are really young. Just fuck, because of you, I couldn’t even delete my ID, chanyeollove, and I’m fucking sick of it https://t.co/mTVEEyZlco

If I may speak my mind, I have a bias against people who speak informally to me when I first meet them. No matter how much younger they look, or how junior they seem, isn’t it right to use formal language when you first meet them? https://t.co/wu6JudFTep

The following are some of the comments:
- “What did you do well enough to meet your juniors and take a picture with them?”
- “Fxck, I’m so embarrassed with my past when I loved you. Please, just live (silently) like this, for real. Just don’t approach these kids. Shxt, because of you I couldn’t change my ID chanyeollove and it’s fxcking annoying.”
- “He went to give them a lecture on how to date 10 women like an old fart.”
- “In my opinion, I would say I have a bias against people who speak informally to me when I first meet them. Even if the other person looks younger than you or seems like your junior, isn’t it right to use formal language when meeting someone for the first time?”
