Following his departure from SM Entertainment, Chen expressed his true emotions in his first album, stating:

“In some ways, this album can be considered a turning point in my life.

I once read this phrase, ‘Enjoying the process, not the result, is true happiness.’ I worked on this album with this phrase deeply in my heart, so I really enjoyed it. I’m grateful and proud that this album has come out into the world.”

The six-track album, “DOOR,”serves as an invitation for fans to “open”it and find comfort. When asked to rate the album and express his satisfaction, Chen would give it a perfect score of 100 points, stating:

“I’ve been preparing this album since last February, and I worked on it while questioning myself a lot. It’s an album filled with countless worries and self-reflection. Because I made it while clearly understanding who I am, I have no regrets and was satisfied when it came out.”

During the conversation, Chen was questioned about his desired collaborator, regardless of the genre. Without any hesitation, he immediately mentioned N. Flying’s Yoo Hweseung.

Despite being added as a member of the boy band N.Flying, Hweseung made his debut in 2017. Despite being a rookie, he proved his abilities as the group’s main vocalist and exceeded expectations.

The up-and-coming singer solidified his reputation in the music industry by emerging victorious in both “King of Masked Singer”and “Immortal Songs 2.”Additionally, he gained recognition for his exceptional collaboration with Lee Hong Gi on the hit track “Still Love You.”

Chen stated that the main reason he chose him was due to the fact that he believed he was the best candidate.

“N.Flying (Yoo) Hweseung. He was on a YouTube channel a while ago. I appeared in a show where we sang a duet with a wall in the middle without knowing each other’s faces.

I thought our chemistry was really good even though we were singing without seeing each other at all, but it turned out to be Hweseung. As soon as filming ended, I told Hweseung, ‘Let’s definitely work together.’ He’s my number one priority right now (laughs).”

In the month of May, Chen and Hweseung made a special guest appearance on the YouTube channel hello82 for its latest segment, “Secret Duet”Episode 1. During the show, they showcased their vocal chemistry by performing a cover of Benson Boone’s “Ghost Town”despite not having met before.
