A cautionary message has been released by experts regarding the popular ‘fridgescaping’ trend on TikTok, which entails embellishing the interior of your refrigerator.
The trend of ‘fridgescaping’ is currently going viral, with TikTokers showcasing their creativity by adorning the inside of their fridges with fresh flowers, handmade picture frames, mirrors, and other delightful items.
The popular Netflix series Bridgerton has sparked creativity in many, who are now decorating their refrigerators with ceramic dishware for storing food, filling wicker baskets with fresh produce, and displaying miniature statues.
Despite their popularity on TikTok for their attractive appearance, the Food Standards Agency has cautioned against placing food near these fridges, citing potential health hazards.
Furthermore, they discouraged the use of containers for food that have been used for other purposes and suggested storing produce in sealed bags or containers to avoid the spread of harmful bacteria through cross-contamination.

The official watchdog recommends storing food in refrigerators between zero and five degrees Celsius and making sure that raw items, such as meat, are always covered.
According to Laura Mountford, a household cleaning expert who has amassed over one million followers on social media, the trend was criticized by her in an interview with the Telegraph. She stated that while the fridgescaping trend may be visually appealing, it should also serve a practical purpose in one’s daily life in order to have lasting value.
“Fridgescaping may not be practical for a family fridge, but it is undeniably aesthetically pleasing. Even if it simply serves as motivation to clean out your fridge, it certainly won’t hurt.”
Regarding the incorporation of wicker baskets in the trend, she remarked, “While acrylic boxes are available for various types of food and are much easier to clean, a wicker basket is not suitable for the fridge.”
