Explaining Toga’s Fate in My Hero Academia: Is She Dead?

Toga Himiko, a major antagonist in My Hero Academia, has had her fate left uncertain for quite some time, leaving many to question whether she has met her demise.

The antagonists play an equally important role in My Hero Academia as the protagonists do. As we witness Deku and his companions chase their aspirations, we also gain insight into the motivations that led former innocent youths to become villains. Toga, in particular, leaves a lasting impression on our hearts with her poignant backstory.

Ever since her introduction, Toga has been the sole prominent female villain in the story, but she holds just as much significance as her male counterparts. Initially, she caused chaos for the heroes, but her role eventually evolved into becoming Ochako’s personal antagonist.

Toga’s ultimate fate in the manga was a subject of much speculation after her last appearance. As the My Hero Academia series came to a close, readers were left wondering if she had met her demise or managed to survive. However, the long-awaited answer is finally revealed in My Hero Academia Chapter 429.

Throughout the Final War, she engages in a prolonged confrontation with Ochako. This battle is not only a physical clash, but also a deep-seated philosophical debate between two young women from contrasting backgrounds. The intense struggle persists until it finally reaches its conclusion in Chapter 395.

During the battle, Ochako faces not only Toga but also the clones created by Twice. Despite this, the young hero surpasses herself by experiencing Quirk Awakening for the first time, making her one of the few characters to achieve this feat.

Despite Ochako’s strengthened Quirk enabling her to defeat the clones, she sustains significant injuries from them and Toga. In the end, she is left slowly bleeding out. However, her selfless empathy ultimately proves worthwhile when the villain finally realizes how fully she has been embraced by the hero.

This results in Toga sacrificing herself on the battlefield to save Ochako’s life by giving her own blood. Chapter 429 ultimately reveals that Toga passes away on that same day, lying by Ochako’s side.

Toga’s Involvement in the Final War

Toga’s presence in the Final War is significant as she not only serves as Ochako’s primary adversary but also poses a danger to heroes throughout the battlefield with her ability to create unlimited Twice clones.

When the war breaks out, Toga uses a warp gate to isolate Deku. She then declares her love for him, but he ultimately rejects her. Before the situation escalates, Ochako and Tsuyu intervene, allowing Deku, the wielder of One For All, to make his way to Shigaraki.

Additionally, Toga’s most significant impact on the war was the formation of the Twice army, also referred to as the ‘Sad Man’s Parade’. By consuming Twice’s blood, she gains the ability to transform into him for a period of 30-40 minutes and utilize his Quirk to produce countless clones that wreak havoc on the battlefield.

Despite facing immense numbers, the clone army remains a formidable barrier for heroes to overcome. Toga, however, is met with a determined Ochako, adding to the highly anticipated battle between the two in Chapter 382.

Despite the heartbreaking outcome of their fight, only Ochako is aware of the truth. As revealed in Chapter 429, although the cameras captured most of the battle, the final part – Toga’s selfless sacrifice – remained unrecorded. This weighs heavily on Ochako’s mind for a prolonged period until she finally opens up to Deku and discloses the truth.
