Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man has gained a devoted fan base thanks to its endearing characters. Each one possesses their own distinct qualities and plays a vital role in the development of the story. Aki Hayakawa, the beloved deuteragonist, was a former Public Safety Devil Hunter contracted with the Fox Devil, and later the Future Devil and Curse Devil.

Aki’s main role in the Public Safety Saga was to track down and eliminate the Gun Devil. Tragically, during the Gun Devil Arc, he fell victim to the Gun Devil and became possessed, becoming the host of the Gun Fiend with 20% of its power. As a result, he unintentionally became the very entity he had set out to destroy.

During the Gun Devil Arc, Aki is fatally wounded while Makima fights against the Gun Devil. The Devil fires a shot at Makima’s head, which becomes her 29th documented death. However, she miraculously revives as her brain matter creates a halo around her head. The Gun Devil witnesses as Makima summons the deceased bodies of Prinz, Sawatari, Aki, Angel Devil, Kurose, and Tendo.

Utilizing the collective strength of their Devil contracts, a rift appears in the sky above the Gun Devil, unleashing a horde of creatures. It is believed that the Gun Devil is now overwhelmed. Additionally, Aki, who was previously deceived by Makima, willingly offers himself to be possessed by the Gun Devil as part of their agreement. This results in him transforming into the Gun Fiend.

Under the pretense of aiding Denji and Power, Makima deceitfully convinced Aki to enter into a contract with her. Aki had grown to view the duo as his family and was deeply concerned for their well-being. Given this opportunity, he agreed to Makima’s proposal, unaware of her ulterior motives. Manipulating his intense animosity towards the Gun Devil, Makima used Aki to fulfill her own agenda.

The situation grew even more dire as the remnants of the Gun Devil took over Aki’s body, transforming him into the Gun Fiend. The fiend proceeded to head towards Aki’s home, leading to a destructive showdown with Denji.

As a result of her proposed contract, Aki submitted to her and was imbued with 20% of the Gun Devil’s power, causing him to become the Gun Fiend. His appearance closely resembled Denji’s Chainsaw Man form, with a large M1911 pistol for a face and an M16A1 rifle for his left forearm.

Aki and Makima’s Plans

Aki was simply a tool and pawn in Makima’s manipulation. Her main goal was to gain control over the Chainsaw Man, also known as Pochita. In pursuit of this grand plan, she was willing to do whatever it took and use whoever necessary.

Makima entrusted Aki with the responsibility of looking after Denji and Power, recognizing his discernment and capabilities. However, despite appearing to have great faith in him, she ultimately saw him as a mere tool. In order to achieve her ultimate objective of obtaining Pochita, Makima aimed to crush Denji’s spirit and force him to abandon his aspirations. To accomplish this, she believed it was necessary to separate him from his loved ones, including Aki and Power.

Upon Makima’s instruction, Denji opened the door when the Gun Fiend arrived at Aki’s apartment where both Denji and Power were present. Makima strategically worded her request to imply that only Denji could resolve the situation, without revealing that the Gun Fiend was actually Aki’s deceased body.
