The developers of League of Legends have provided an explanation for the significant changes to boots that will impact the MOBA in Patch 14.15. These changes include various nerfs to the unique items.
The developers of League of Legends have revealed that Patch 14.15 will bring about substantial alterations to boots. These modifications are expected to greatly affect the strength of these items, as they are set to receive significant reductions in both cost and effectiveness.
In League of Legends, boots are an essential item for most champions during a match. They not only increase movement speed, which is beneficial for evading attacks and traversing the map, but the second upgrade also offers a customizable bonus that can be tailored to fit each matchup.
The developers have provided an explanation for the upcoming balancing changes in the next patch, outlining a number of goals they aim to accomplish with these significant alterations.
Patch 14.15Boots– For a long time, defensive boots have been too good in high levels of play (especially) while being unattractive in lowers levels– This often results in mirror matchup defensive boot laning phases in midlane where neither player is able to die and they opt… pic.twitter.com/CjKb5dUXVe

Riot Phroxzon, the lead gameplay designer, took to Twitter to provide an explanation for the reasoning behind these changes.
Phroxzon stated that defensive boots have been excessively dominant, particularly in high-level games, leading to unexciting matchups when both players acquire them early on. Furthermore, the strength of boots often leads to players making counterintuitive decisions, as they prioritize them over more valuable epic components.
The developer specifically pointed out Mercury Treads as being “disproportionately strong”in comparison to other choices. Therefore, the developers will be boosting other magic resistance components early on in order to balance out the modifications.
The modifications are currently being tested on the PBE, which means there is still a possibility that some of them may be reverted or modified before being implemented on the live servers on 31 July 2024. We will keep you updated on any developments.
