However, it should not be overlooked that some of the most adored and formidable Pokemon belong to the Normal type category.

What is a Normal-type Pokemon?
Normal-type Pokemon, as their name implies, have the ability to be a variety of creatures as long as they are not overly stimulating or showy. However, do not confuse normal with dull; there are numerous cherished Normal-types including the lovable Eevee, the relatable Snorlax, and even the divine Bidoof.
Some Normal Pokemon, such as Rattata and Wooloo, are based on real-world animals and do not have strong associations with any specific element. While some dual-type Pokemon push the boundaries, others like Deerling (Normal/Grass), Drampa (Normal/Dragon), and the regional Normal/Flying birds still have ties to realistic or “Normal”characteristics.
Despite the general rule of being “not too exciting,”there are a few exceptions. One such exception is the Mythical Arceus, a Normal-type Pokemon believed to have created the entire Pokemon universe. Its unique ability allows it to transform into any type, with Normal being its default form, symbolizing its impartiality towards any specific type.
Normal-Type Pokemon Weaknesses
Fighting is the only weakness for Normal-type Pokemon.
Naturally, this does not take into consideration dual types, which can affect a Pokemon’s vulnerabilities and defenses, so it is important to keep that in mind.
Normal-type Pokemon – Strengths & Resistances
Normal-type moves do not have a super effective advantage against any other types. Nevertheless, they compensate for this by having very few weaknesses and being resisted only by the following types:
- Rock
- Steel
It should be noted that Ghost-type moves have no effect on Normal Pokemon, and the same is true in reverse as Normal-type moves have no effect on Ghost Pokemon.

Given that Normal-type Pokemon only have one weakness, it makes sense to use strong Fighting-types as a counter. Additionally, Pokemon with a secondary type of Rock, Steel, or Ghost are effective for countering Normal-type moves due to their resistance or immunity.
Recommended Tera Types for Normal-type Pokemon
Furthermore, when constructing a team, players of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet should take into consideration the Tera type. Below are some recommended Tera-type choices for Normal-type Pokemon:
- You receive an additional power boost on top of the STAB and eliminate any vulnerabilities from a secondary type.
- The Fairy type is effective against Fighting types and provides immunity to Dragon types, with only a few weaknesses.
- The Psychic type is effective against Fighting types.
