The sixth episode of House of the Dragon’s second season revealed a wealth of new elements for fans to analyze. The HBO prequel is now highlighting the importance of the season’s additions to the cast, with supporting characters such as Addam and Alyn taking on significant roles in the main storyline as the world deals with the consequences of Rook’s Rest.
After the crucial dragon battle, the war continued to intensify and both the Blacks and Greens are still trying to navigate the chaos of the Dance.
In Episode 6, Rhaenyra and Jacaerys embark on their quest to find new riders and tame the unclaimed dragons on Dragonstone. Tragically, Steffon Darklyn is killed in his attempt to mount Seasmoke, causing Rhaenyra to question her approach once again.
Despite staying at the haunted castle of Harrenhal and being consumed by his visions, Daemon continues to work towards building an army. At the same time, the Greens are facing difficulties with the unpredictable Prince Regent Aemond Targaryen, who has taken over the reins from the impulsive King Aegon II.
1. Who is Seasmoke’s new rider?
The final scene shows Rhaenyra being informed that Seasmoke has been seen flying over the Crownlands with a different rider. Her original plan with Steffon Darklyn was for him to ride Seasmoke, the unclaimed dragon who seemed eager to bond with a new human partner.
Despite her initial failure, she remained hopeful that she would eventually find a new rider with Valyrian blood who could bond with the dragons. Fortunately, it seems that the abandoned dragon Seasmoke has finally found a suitable rider in Addam of Hull, who has been slowly integrated into the community on Driftmark over the course of the season.
Upon observing Addam of Hull fishing on the shore, it appears that he is being attacked by Seasmoke.
Initially, he is terrified by the enormous creature, but as the episode nears its end, he comes to the realization that the dragon poses no threat, suggesting that he may become its rider.
In Fire & Blood, Addam takes over as the rider of Seasmoke, who was previously ridden by Laenor Velaryon, the legitimate son of Lord Corlys. Laenor’s character was removed from the show in season 1. This change occurred because Addam is the illegitimate son of Lord Corlys.
2. Why Did Rhaenyra and Mysaria Kiss?
Despite facing a challenging war, Rhaenerya manages to overcome all obstacles and the episode concludes with a heartwarming kiss. The creators of House of the Dragon successfully delivered a surprising and memorable moment for viewers.
The inclusion of Rhaenyra’s relationship with Mysaria in House of the Dragon season 2 adds to the list of surprising changes from the book. While the two grow closer during the dance, their connection remains purely strategic and political, with no indication of any romantic involvement.
Although Rhaenyra and Mysaria have been exhibiting obvious sexual tension throughout the season, this is their first physical intimacy.
Rhaenyra’s desire for Mysaria stems from her need for validation and recognition of her authority. As the only person in season 2 to address her as a queen and show genuine faith in her, Mysaria serves as a source of support and admiration for Rhaenyra. Additionally, Rhaenyra may also seek a sense of control over Daemon by forming a bond with Mysaria. Though Mysaria is loyal to Rhaenyra and wants to please her, her complicated emotions towards Daemon may also influence her actions.
3. Has Daemon Turned Against Rhaenyra?
Despite his treasonous words against Rhaenyra at Harrenhal in season 2, episode 6, Daemon has yet to take any action against her. He has not directly harmed her, but rather has only declared himself king and stopped communicating with her, causing her to become concerned.
In season 2, Daemon’s behavior remains true to his original motive for stealing the dragon egg in season 1. He copes with his emotions by resorting to immature tactics and seeking attention and pity from others, whether it be Viserys or Rhaenyra.
Rhaenyra refuses to engage in his manipulative tactics, causing Daemon to drift further from her. However, he may still harbor loyalty towards her, as a part of him relies on her just as much as he craves her dependence on him.
4. Did Alys Rivers Kill Grover Tully?
In season 2, episode 6, Ser Simon Strong suggests that Alys Rivers attempted to “heal”Grover Tully, the old Lord Paramount of the Riverlands, in order to rally the Riverlords to Daemon’s cause. However, Daemon’s response hints that Alys used her skills to end the old lord’s life instead.
As a result, Grover’s grandson, Ser Oscar Tully, has taken on the role of Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Daemon views Oscar as a potential ally, giving him renewed optimism for gathering his forces.
Many people speculated that Alys Rivers was either a ghost or a figment of Daemon’s imagination, sent to torment him. However, in episode 6, Simon Strong mentions her, proving her existence and revealing her mysterious abilities to receive knowledge through visions. It is still unclear what her role is in Daemon’s visions, but it seems that she is guiding him towards uniting the Riverlands for Rhaenyra’s cause.
Daemon’s Perspective on Visions
In Harrenhal, Daemon’s last vision reveals Paddy Considine reprising his role as King Viserys Targaryen. This mirrors a scene from the House of the Dragon season premiere, in which the deceased king reassured Daemon of Rhaenyra’s position as his heir.
Upon hearing Daemon refer to Viserys’ late infant son as an “heir for a day,”it was decided that his actions were highly offensive.
The vision portrays Daemon’s profound grief and fear for his brother, reaching its peak as the season’s emotional conflicts come to a head. Within Daemon’s House of the Dragon storyline, his feelings of inadequacy towards Viserys are a central focus, and his relentless pursuit of power ultimately leads to repeatedly betraying his brother.
6. What Can We Anticipate In House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 7?
The highly awaited moment in House of the Dragon season 2, episode 7 is the confrontation between Rhaenyra and Addam of Hull, who is now mounted on Seasmoke. Teasers from this encounter were featured in season 2 previews, and it could potentially be a reassuring and uplifting moment for Rhaenyra as she gains a new comrade.
This will result in the commencement of the Sowing of the Seeds, allowing other Valyrian descendants to lay claim to their own dragons.
Daemon’s visions come to an end, and with Grover’s passing, he is able to complete his journey in Harrenhal and the Riverlands. He gathers his soldiers to confront the oncoming Lannister army.
