After its 10-year-long run, My Hero Academia has come to an end, providing answers to some pressing questions while leaving others unresolved.
My Hero Academia, created by Kohei Horikoshi, has had a huge impact on the shonen genre of manga. It debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014 and remained popular for ten years until it ended with Chapter 430.
Despite the official release date of the final chapter being August 4, the outcome of the manga has already been revealed through early spoilers. One thing is certain: the last chapter will be a mix of both anticipated and unexpected events.
Despite its lengthy six-chapter epilogue, My Hero Academia was still tasked with addressing several unanswered questions, one of which was whether or not Deku ultimately becomes the top-ranked Hero. This central plot point serves as the foundation for the entire story, but fortunately, the finale provides a definitive resolution to this lingering uncertainty.
Breaking Down the My Hero Academia Ending
Despite eight years passing since the end of My Hero Academia, the finale shows that Deku has permanently lost One For All and is now a teacher at U.A. However, he ultimately becomes a Pro Hero with advanced armor and support equipment.
In Chapter 430, Deku begins by reciting the same words that opened the story: “Anyone can become a hero.”This statement takes on new meaning as we discover that Deku no longer possesses a Quirk, as the embers of One For All had long since faded.
Apart from him, all of the Class 1-A students have become Pro Heroes. Despite their busy schedules, they are unable to meet frequently. However, Deku maintains a close relationship with both All Might and Aizawa.
In addition to focusing on Deku’s future, Chapter 430 also introduces another character: Dai, who aspires to become a Hero despite possessing a non-offensive Quirk. He reminisces about his childhood when everyone, including himself, dreamed of becoming a Hero like All Might, Endeavor, Deku, and Dynamight.
The concluding chapter highlights the parallels between Dai and Deku. However, instead of All Might, it is the protagonist who recognizes that the young boy has the potential to become a Hero, even without a strong Quirk, because his true desire is to protect and help others.
Afterwards, Deku reunites with All Might, who provides him with a set of extremely costly support gears. With the help of these advanced devices, Deku is able to achieve his dream of becoming a Pro Hero, even without the use of One For All.
In addition to these characters, Kota and Eri make appearances in the final chapter. Kota is now a student at U.A., while Eri attends a regular school and is a member of the music club.
Deku is not the greatest hero… yet
Despite not being able to achieve his dream of becoming the No. 1 Hero, Deku is presented with a second chance in the final chapter to make it a reality. With the help of his support items, he ultimately realizes his goal of becoming a Pro Hero.
All Might disclosed in Chapter 430 that Mei Hatsume and his American acquaintance (likely Melissa Shield from the initial My Hero Academia film) were the creators of the support items. Additionally, it was revealed that the Class 1-A students funded the inventions, with Bakugo being the top contributor.
Despite feeling overwhelmed, Deku is told by the former Symbol of Peace, “Remember this, kid. This is also a power that you have rightfully earned!”
After hearing All Might’s words, Deku is finally convinced. The closing panels of the chapter show Bakugo reaching out to Deku and inviting him to join the rest of the Class 1-A Heroes on their mission to rescue people from a landslide.
What happens to the rest of Class 1-A?
All of Class 1-A goes on to become Pro Heroes.
All members of the class, with the exception of Deku, have achieved their dreams. Ochako, Iida, Tsuyu, and Momo have joined forces to become a Hero team. In the finale of My Hero Academia, they embark on a journey to visit primary schools throughout the nation.
As a result of the decrease in villain incidents, Heroes have expanded their role in society. They no longer solely focus on battles and rescue missions, but also engage in other activities, such as Ochako’s ‘Quirk Counselling Expansion Project.’ This demonstrates a shift in their responsibilities to better serve the community.
In Chapter 430, Shoji is recognized for his efforts to decrease prejudiced crimes against heteromorphs, and we see Koda joyfully applauding him. Overall, Shoji is thriving in a positive environment.
Despite being ranked among the top Heroes, Shoto and Bakugo’s reputation is hindered by Bakugo’s unchanged attitude. He continues to yell at his fans who attempt to record him, resulting in a decrease in his approval ratings.
On the contrary, Shoto is thriving. He is constantly dedicated to his work and helping others. Despite his inherent awkwardness, he remains kind to his fans and has gained significant popularity. Deku predicts that Shoto will soon surpass Mt. Lady and Kamui Woods and rival Mirio, currently known as the No. 1 Hero.
Aside from the members of Class 1-A, Shinso, Honenuki, and Monoma are all recognized as Pro Heroes. Similarly, Aoyama has also strived to become a Hero like his companions.
