Star Wars: The Acolyte is poised to become the hit of the summer, but what is the premise of this latest addition to the expansive Star Wars universe?
Despite its incredible growth and continuous expansion, it may be difficult to fathom that the Star Wars franchise has been consistently providing fans with content for nearly half a century.
Despite three movie trilogies, countless spin-off series, and an endless number of books, it appeared highly unlikely that the familiar world of Star Wars could offer anything new. However, it seems that they have succeeded as the highly anticipated mini series, The Acolyte, is gearing up to be one of the biggest summer shows.
However, what is the premise of The Acolyte and how does this unique narrative align with the pre-existing Star Wars universe?
What is Star Wars: The Acolyte?
Star Wars: The Acolyte follows the journey of a former Padawan who joins forces with her Jedi master to protect their peaceful world from a looming threat.
Thanks to the release of a recently dropped trailer, we now have insight into the plot of the show. It will revolve around Lee Jung-jae, a renowned Jedi master, who must face the deadly actions of a nameless, knife-wielding killer portrayed by Amandla Stenberg.
The new mini series will accomplish something unprecedented in the live-action Star Wars universe by delving into the origins of the Sith, the powerful Force-wielders who follow the dark side.
According to Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland, her vision for the origin story of Star Wars’ greatest villains was shared with Entertainment Weekly. She expressed her desire to tell the story of the Sith, stating that it was her dream idea for the franchise. However, she believed that the most compelling time period to explore would be before the events of Phantom Menace. Headland found the transition of the Sith from being considered extinct to Palpatine rising to power, without the knowledge of the Jedi, to be the most intriguing aspect of their history.
The Acolyte, a part of the Star Wars franchise, will be the first live-action project to depart from the Skywalker Saga era, which has been the setting for all three movie trilogies. Fans are already expressing their admiration for this decision.
