Gandu, a highly explicit Indian film, is now available for streaming on Netflix for fans who have not yet had the chance to watch the critically acclaimed drama.
Gandu, a 2010 Indian art drama, follows the story of a teenage rapper who is constantly ridiculed by his peers. It is hinted that Gandu is not his real name, but rather a derogatory slang term in Indian culture meaning a**hole.
Despite being banned in its home country of India and not being available for public viewing until two years after its initial release, the film can now be streamed on Netflix in the UK and Australia. However, it remains difficult to access in other regions.
Despite the controversy surrounding it, Gandu is a film that is known for its divisive nature and inclusion of numerous graphic and uncensored sexual scenes. One scene in particular, which depicts oral sex between the film’s lead actor and Rii Sen, caused quite a stir as Sen was in a romantic relationship with the film’s director, Qaushiz Qukherjee (credited as Q) during the filming process.
Controversial art film Gandu is finally hitting Netflix in some countries.
Despite the controversy surrounding its explicit sexual content, Gandu continues to receive positive reviews. In a 2011 review, Variety described the film as a “high-energy representation of a unique genre,”expressing disappointment that its “dystopian and disillusioned youth narrative ultimately transitions into scenes of graphic pornography.”
Despite its rebellious nature, Gandu has received an impressive 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have lauded the film for its depiction of Indian culture and its striking use of black-and-white visuals.
Currently, Gandu is unavailable on Netflix for viewers outside of the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. However, those in the US and Canada can access it for free on Tubi.
