Following the news about the Baldur’s Gate 3 mod toolkit being unlocked, talented modders have found a way to create custom maps within the game.
Prior to the release of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 7, Larian had hinted at the introduction of an official mod toolkit. Although the studio indicated that this separate software would enable players to create their own mods, it was also noted that the creation of new levels would not be supported.
However, it only took a modder around two days to unlock more advanced features. Now, some impressive custom Baldur’s Gate 3 maps created using the toolkit are already being showcased.
One user shared screenshots of a striking custom map featuring a seaside castle in a Reddit thread. In addition to these images, a video was also posted that provides a closer look at the map, showcasing a character exploring the area.
The user expressed that “the unlocked editor is very promising for custom campaigns! I hope that means we will eventually get some full-on user-made DLC or new campaigns, much like there are in the Skyrim modding scene.”
In another post, another custom map was revealed, this one depicting the much-anticipated location of Avernus. Many players have been requesting the inclusion of this area for quite some time, even as a separate DLC, showcasing one of Karlach’s endings.
The surroundings are depicted with fiery red and orange hues, a river resembling blood, and ashes falling from the sky, creating an ominous ambiance. The creator noted that this map is still a work in progress, as indicated in the video.
Many players who viewed these previews expressed their amazement and excitement about the future of modding in Baldur’s Gate 3, given the many new possibilities the toolkit introduces.
It will be intriguing to see what the community of modders and players will innovate in the game.
