The new Warzone Purgatory mode significantly transforms the CoD Battle Royale experience with some extraordinary features. An entirely separate map is hovering above, with portals scattered throughout the game, among many other surprises.
As Warzone Season 6 launches on September 18, this extensive update is set to introduce a range of unique thrills. The Haunting event makes a return to CoD just in time for the spooky season.
Purgatory will take place on the Hellspawn variant of Rebirth Island, but this isn’t the only location players will explore.
Action intensifies in Rebirth with the Hellspawn map variant.
What is Warzone Purgatory? The Haunting LTM explained
Set on Rebirth Island, Warzone Purgatory immerses players in the foreboding atmosphere of the Hellspawn variant designed for Halloween, plunging them into a hellish battleground.
Traditional Battle Royale rules are tossed aside as players spawn with their loadouts immediately and enjoy unlimited respawns. Victory isn’t achieved by merely surviving until the end; instead, players must meet a distinct win condition by securing kills and earning commendations from others in the match.
Throughout the game, players will encounter seven unique gameplay mechanics. Some mechanics are straightforward, like ‘Scare Packages’ that drop around the map, containing potent loot and “unexpected side effects,” while others are more intricate.
One notable feature is Flying Shipment. The classic CoD map Shipment is present but is no ordinary POI. It hovers above the battlefield, and players can access it by parachuting back in, flying in a helicopter, or discovering one of the numerous new portals scattered across Rebirth.
Similar to Valve’s iconic puzzler and Splitgate, portals are integrated into CoD through this LTM, although players won’t have control over the placement of these portals.
With a careful glance, you can spot Shipment floating over a colossal creature in the top right corner.
Here’s a complete overview of all seven unique features in the upcoming Purgatory LTM for Warzone:
- Powerups: This mode introduces “powerful Weapon Blueprints and numerous Killstreaks,” along with super weapons from Arcade mode and abilities from Mutation.
- Portals: Players can utilize portals located throughout the map to transport themselves to various locations.
- Flying Shipment: The Shipment map hovers above the battlefield, accessible through parachutes, helicopters, and Portals.
- Safe Zone: A Safe Zone is available where players cannot deal or receive damage while experiencing the game from a third-person perspective.
- Torment Level: Eliminating enemies boosts your Torment Level, resulting in increased XP but also heightened visibility on the minimap, making you a more prominent target.
- Scare Packages: These Halloween-themed care packages will appear on the map, offering powerful loot along with potential “unexpected side effects.”
- Terriball: Found in the ground and in Scare Packages, Terriballs can be shot, meleed, or kicked at opposing Operators, resulting in an instant kill upon impact.
This offers a lot for CoD players to absorb, but after a few matches in the Purgatory mode, everything should become clear.
The effort will certainly be worthwhile, as players can expect unique rewards tied to this phenomenal LTM. More information will be provided as details become available.
