The Great Pagoda is a significant location in Black Myth: Wukong that requires considerable effort to access, yet players are often left wondering about its purpose.
Among the many intriguing yet enigmatic spots in Black Myth: Wukong, players frequently encounter doors and rooms that may seem unnecessary until they complete a hidden side quest that unveils new items or entire areas.
One area baffling players currently is the Great Pagoda in the third chapter of the game, The New West. This location demands substantial effort to discover, but upon arrival, it appears empty, prompting curiosity regarding its true function.
Does The Great Pagoda Have a Purpose?
The Great Pagoda is crucial for unlocking the true ending of Black Myth: Wukong.
The Great Pagoda is one of the notable places of interest in the game.
Upon entering the Pagoda, players will notice multiple murals adorning the walls. These murals become filled by completing hidden challenge areas across various chapters. To fill up the murals, you need to complete the following:
- Chapter 1 – The Ancient Guanyin Temple
- Chapter 2 – Kingdom of Sahali
- Chapter 3 – Purple Cloud Mountain
- Chapter 3 – Treasure Hunt Side Quest
- Chapter 4 – The Bishui Cave
After finishing all these secret quests, a special NPC will appear inside The Great Pagoda. To proceed, players will need access to the Jingubang Staff and the Monkey King armor set, which requires first achieving the standard ending by completing the game.
Once you have done this, you will be given the option to either embark on a new adventure or continue your current one. If you select to continue your journey, you will be transported back to just before the final boss. At this juncture, equip the weapon and armor set, approach the NPC inside The Great Pagoda, and you will trigger the secret ending of Black Myth: Wukong.
How to Reach The Great Pagoda
Reaching The Great Pagoda may be a difficult task, but here’s a guide for you to navigate this area.
Step 1: Reach Mirrormare Shrine
Your first step in Black Myth: Wukong is finding the Mirrormare Shrine.
This area becomes accessible after you’ve explored the early sections of the snow-laden region known as The New West. After some exploration, you’ll encounter an NPC who can transform you into a bird and fly you through the mountains to reach the Mirrormare Shrine.
Once you arrive, make sure to prepare your gear, upgrade your flasks, and ready yourself for battle.
Step 2: Defeat Kang-Jin Loong
Kang-Jin Loong is a formidable dragon featured in Black Myth: Wukong.
Before the Mirrormare Shrine lies a vast frozen lake. Step into the center of this lake, and a cutscene will trigger where a monk appears, alongside the boss, Kang-Jin Loong, the white dragon familiar to many from game trailers.
- Although Kang-Jin Loong may appear intimidating, the fight is manageable. The main challenge is the boss’s tendency to fly high, which can interrupt your attacks.
- When the dragon descends, take the opportunity to immobilize it and inflict maximum damage.
- Landing a successful Resolute Counterflow or Light Attack combo will knock Kang-Jin Loong down, granting you a significant chance to deal heavy damage. Just be cautious of its Lightning attacks.
- The dragon will occasionally slam down with its hands or tail, dealing Lightning damage. Be wary, as it can also grab you and unleash a devastating Lightning burst.
- Once it loses 50% of its HP, Kang-Jin Loong will take to the skies and launch a flurry of Lightning strikes. Dodge these and wait for it to descend to continue dealing damage.
- Upon defeating the boss, you will fall into the lake and be teleported to a new area known as the Pagoda Realm.
Step 3: Explore Lower Pagoda
The Lower Pagoda exists as a perilous zone in the game.
After being teleported to the Pagoda Realm, the first shrine you will encounter is the Lower Pagoda. This area is not just a new zone; it’s treacherous. You’ll find a considerable rotating structure at the center with narrow paths surrounding it.
You will initially find yourself trapped in a cell that you can break out of, although there are multiple such cells scattered throughout. However, the real threats come not from the prisons or enemies but from the following mechanics:
- At times, you will notice the screen glowing white, and your character will scream. Following this, both your character and enemies will exhibit red eyes.
- A new type of enemy appears when this glowing mechanic is active, which was previously unseen.
- During this phase, the music intensifies, and the central structure spins rapidly. The newly introduced enemies behave like searchlights with three bulbs that track your movement, even during Cloud Step.
- Additionally, your health will be halved during this period, increasing the difficulty, but remember, this mechanic is temporary and will cease before returning again.
- This means there will be moments when you can tackle the enemies and obstacles without facing the searchlight foes.
- As you explore, look for a set of stairs to ascend to the upper level.
Step 4: Upper Pagoda
The Upper Pagoda poses dangers similar to those found in the Lower Pagoda.
The Upper Pagoda presents challenges akin to those of the Lower Pagoda, so stay vigilant. You must be cautious of bat-like creatures that may leap at you unexpectedly, pushing you off narrow paths.
Moreover, the upper level contains narrow wooden bridges where archers will fire arrows at you. However, you can sprint across these bridges or utilize Cloud Step to evade attacks. The mechanics from the Lower Pagoda persist, but you’ll become more accustomed to them here.
Soon, you’ll notice moving stairs leading upwards to the Mani Wheel Shrine.
Step 5: Defeat Captain Wise-Voice
Captain Wise-Voice is a bothersome adversary in the game.
Upon reaching the Mani Wheel Shrine, you’ll find yourself at the peak of the Pagoda Realm. Proceed forward and enter the rotating structure to engage with the new boss, Captain Wise-Voice. This fight may be easier than Kang-Jin Loong but can still be quite annoying.
- Captain Wise-Voice has the body of a horse and a circular metallic head. When locked onto, you’ll see it focus on its feet.
- To damage Captain Wise-Voice, you must strike its toes until it topples over. While hits to the toes deal minimal damage, they give way to a weak point—its metallic head, which you can hit for significant damage when exposed.
- However, be aware that Captain Wise-Voice inflicts Lightning damage that can be lethal.
- Its typical attacks include stomps, frequent Lightning barrages, and a devastating Lightning beam.
- The mechanic from the Pagoda Realm reactivates here, where Captain Wise-Voice will scream and its head will glow. As before, your health will be reduced to half.
- Once it has lost 60% of its health, Captain Wise-Voice will become immune and initiate a laser show, creating circular and criss-cross patterns on the ground. The danger comes when these patterns glow yellow before turning red and exploding.
- You will find no cover, but can dodge by standing in the neutral spaces between patterns until the explosions subside, allowing you to resume your assault.
Step 6: Reach the Snow-Veiled Trail
The Snow-Veiled Trail is your final destination before reaching the Pagoda.
After dispatching Captain Wise-Voice, you will emerge back outside, free from the Pagoda’s challenges. The upcoming path is relatively simple, featuring a few manageable enemies.
Keep exploring until you come upon a giant flight of stairs that leads to the Snow-Veiled Trail Shrine.
Step 7: The Great Pagoda
The Great Pagoda remains an enigmatic location.
From the Snow-Veiled Trail, walk forward and cross the snow-laden wooden bridge. Once across, head left and continue straight until you reach a vast expanse of snow.
A point of interaction will appear upon entering the field, leading to a substantial door shrouded in clouds and snow. Interact with this door to gain access to The Great Pagoda.
Inside the temple, strike the Shrine to ensure you can teleport back here in the future. As previously noted, the Pagoda is integral to unlocking a secret ending in the game, making it a location worth exploring.
