Shanks, along with the Red Hair Pirates, is poised to play a significant role in the Final Saga of One Piece – here’s all the information we have about the crew so far.
The Red Hair Pirates make their first appearance early in One Piece. They frequently visited Foosha Village and encountered a young Luffy, which inspired the protagonist to pursue a life of piracy and embark on a grand adventure.
Although there is a strong bond between Luffy and the Red Hair Pirates, they have not crossed paths for quite some time. However, their reunion is anticipated as the crew, led by Shanks, is set to play a crucial role in the impending war, and potentially the Elbaf Arc. At this stage, we remain uncertain about their allegiance.
This crew holds great importance in the narrative, yet we know very little about them. Shanks and his crew appear infrequently in the story. However, their presence is significant enough to underscore their power, which is why a detailed discussion about them is necessary.
One of the Most Dangerous Crews in One Piece
As Shanks is one of the Yonko (also known as Four Emperors), his crew is notably one of the most formidable in One Piece.
The Yonko consist of some of the strongest characters in the series. Prior to the time skip, the Four Emperors were Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, and Shanks. Following the Marineford War, Whitebeard was supplanted by Blackbeard, and eventually, Kaido and Big Mom were defeated as well.
This leaves Shanks as the sole survivor of the previous group, potentially making him the most dangerous. This is supported by the fact that he and his crew are infamous within the pirate community, even instilling fear in Marine Admirals.
Shanks and his crew’s influence became evident during the Marineford War; their mere presence on the battlefield was enough to halt the conflict. This notoriety was further illustrated when they decisively overpowered Kid Pirates during the Egghead Arc.
In One Piece Chapter 1126, the Red Hair Pirates give everyone another reason to fear them. When Barto Club, led by Bartolomeo, stumbles into their territory, they are ensnared in a loyalty test which ultimately results in their ship being destroyed by Shanks’ crew.
Who’s in the Red Hair Pirates?
The Red Hair Pirates are comprised of various infamous individuals and are led by the enigmatic Shanks.
The crew, though sizable, is smaller than most Yonko crews, and we are only familiar with a few members. Beyond the Chief (captain), there is a first mate and eight Senior Officers.
Here are the known members of the Red Hair Pirates:
- Benn Beckman – first mate
- Lucky Roux – Senior Officer and cook
- Yasopp – Senior Officer and sniper
- Bonk Punch – Senior Officer and musician
- Monster – Senior Officer and musician
- Building Snake – Senior Officer and navigator
- Hongo – Senior Officer and doctor
- Lime Juice – Senior Officer
- Gab – Senior Officer
- Rockstar – crew member
In addition to the Senior Officers, the Red Hair Pirates have many unnamed crew members. Uta, the renowned musician and Shanks’ adopted daughter – introduced in One Piece Film: Red – was part of the crew during her childhood.
As a Yonko, Shanks wields significant influence over the New World, offering protection to several pirate crews in exchange for their loyalty (similar to Luffy’s Straw Hat Grand Fleet). Some of these crews include:
- Puddle Pirates – led by Gerotini
- Social Club – led by Fugar
- Bourgeoise Pirates – led by Pururu
- Night Butterfly Pirates – Linaria
- Unnamed pirate crew – Oli
They All Have High Bounties
The crew is also notorious for their substantial bounties. While we only know the bounty amounts for Shanks and Rockstar, it is evident that Beckman and the Senior Officers likely have similarly high bounties.
Shanks’ current bounty stands at 4,048,900,000 bellies, making it one of the highest in One Piece. Rockstar had a bounty of 94,000,000 bellies when he joined, despite being a rookie. This suggests that the other crew members’ bounties are likely above 100,000,000 bellies.
The Red Hair Pirates navigate the New World aboard their ship, the Red Force. Although it’s unclear when they acquired it, as they had a different ship during their visit to Foosha Village, it must have occurred before the Marineford War.
Shanks is a Huge Influence on Luffy
As we know, Luffy was significantly influenced by Shanks during his time in Foosha Village. Awe reflecting from the Red Hair Pirates’ adventures inspired Luffy to pursue a life at sea. Shanks, in turn, saw the spirit of his former captain, Gol D. Roger, within Luffy.
Although time spent together was limited, they left a lasting impact on each other’s lives. Notably, Shanks sacrificed his arm to save Luffy from a Sea King and later entrusted Luffy with his treasured straw hat, believing in Luffy’s dream of becoming the King of Pirates.
Luffy remains unaware that the straw hat once belonged to Roger; to him, it is a cherished symbol of the bond with Shanks. His dedication to protecting the hat further illustrates its significance.
Despite Shanks’ ambiguous motives, he continuously watches over Luffy and celebrates his rising bounties. He also ensured Ace received a proper burial after the Marineford War. Recently, he tested Bartolomeo’s loyalty to Luffy in Chapter 1126.
Looking beyond Luffy and Shanks, the Straw Hat Pirates share another connection with the Red Hair Pirates through Usopp, who is Yasopp’s son. Although Yasopp left Usopp’s mother at Syrup Village to pursue piracy, when their crews eventually reunite, it will mark their first meeting in years.
As we delve deeper into the Final Saga of One Piece, we can expect to see more of the Red Hair Pirates and uncover the mysteries surrounding Shanks.
