Exploring the Similarities between Lucius and Astaroth in Black Clover

Despite being introduced in a similar manner and having significant roles in the final arc of the manga, many fans of Black Clover wonder if Lucius and Astaroth are actually the same person. However, it is evident from the beginning that they are distinct characters with distinct roles throughout the story, even though their stories are closely intertwined.

Despite not physically appearing in Black Clover as of now, it should be noted that Astaroth plays a crucial role in the plot. Their mention alone holds great significance, as Lucius Zogratis’ schemes would not have been successful without the Devil’s involvement and powers.

Despite some initial confusion, it has been established in the final arc of author Yuki Tabata’s manga that Astaroth and Lucius are two distinct individuals. Astaroth, one of the three powerful Devils who once ruled the underworld, crossed paths with Julius Novachrono and Lucius Zogratis while escaping his former reality.

Despite being twin brothers trapped in one body, Julius and Lucius had distinct roles in the Zogratis household, the main antagonists of the Dark Triad arc. As the oldest sibling, Lucius possessed great potential as a devil host and made a contract with Astaroth, acquiring the Time Magic ability that ultimately allowed Julius to become the Wizard King.

Being the Wizard King also signified that Lucius held a highly influential position and could meticulously strategize his pursuit of magic purity.

Lucius’ Role in the Story

Lucius played a pivotal role in the narrative of Black Clover, as he devised the strategies to weaken Lucifero in the Dark Triad arc and was instrumental in Julius Novachrono’s ascension as the Wizard King. He is perceived as the ultimate antagonist in the manga and the most daunting challenge that Asta and his companions have encountered thus far in their journey.

Despite being a villain, he had an ambitious goal of achieving magical purity, a feat unmatched by any other antagonist in the story. He strategically used his Time Magic to manipulate events and ensure that his plan would come to fruition. This is evident in his ability to orchestrate even Julius’ transformation into a child and attack the Clover Kingdom when they were most vulnerable.

Despite never making a physical appearance in Black Clover and only being mentioned a few times, it is important to note that Astaroth holds significant importance in the story. This is due to the fact that he was the Devil who struck a deal with Lucius Zogratis, granting him the power to carry out his plan.

Astaroth’s influence was crucial in providing Lucius with the Time Magic to manipulate events and ultimately leading to Julius becoming the Wizard King. Without Astaroth’s involvement, it is highly likely that the entire story would have unfolded in a completely different manner.

Some fan theories suggest that this Devil may serve as the ultimate antagonist in the series, but currently, this is only speculation among fans.
