Kingdom Come: Deliverance has gained significant acclaim for its commitment to realism and historical fidelity, reflected not only in its narrative and gameplay but also in its expansive map. The upcoming sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, promises to uphold this tradition by recreating the rich landscape of 15th-century Bohemia.
This time, players can expect more than just the enchanting rural countryside and quaint villages. The game will prominently feature Kuttenberg (modern-day Kutná Hora, Czech Republic), which was one of the largest and most significant cities during the 1400s in Bohemia.
Exploring the Map Size of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Set to dwarf its predecessor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s map is approximately double the size of the original. Unlike the single vast map of the first installment, this sequel divides its world into two major sections, each comparable in size to the first game’s territory.
The original game featured a 16km² map, which included notable towns like Rattay and Sasau, and was comparable in size to regions found in The Witcher 3, such as Velen and Novigrad. Players enjoyed complete exploration of this area without encountering any off-limits sections or bodies of water.
In this new installment, the principal regions of exploration are the bustling city of Kuttenberg and the idyllic countryside surrounding Trosky Castle. Players will start their journey at Trosky Castle before transitioning to the vibrant city of Kuttenberg, which the developers have emphasized could represent “some ten times larger” than Rattay from the original game. In a developer livestream from November 20, 2024, PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling referred to the Trosky map as the “smaller of the two,” confirming a more extensive focus on the city.
Notably, players will not be able to return to the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance map; instead, exploration will be limited to Kuttenberg and the surrounding countryside.
Kuttenberg: A Medieval Metropolis
Kuttenberg is expected to be a vast and detailed city, complete with fortified walls, residential areas, and farmlands. Rattay, known as the largest area from the first game, could fit within Kuttenberg multiple times, underscoring the scale of this ambitious project.
With the potential for additional villages, hamlets, and points of interest throughout the map, players will have plenty of new territory to discover.
The Trosky Map: A Glimpse at the Countryside
While information about the Trosky map remains limited, early insights suggest it will feature lush forests and expansive farmland. In the recent livestream, viewers got a brief look at parts of this area, much of which remains clouded and yet to be explored.
Additionally, Bylany, a small hamlet revealed during the gameplay showcase, is still shrouded in mystery regarding its exact location on the two maps. However, it’s expected that this hamlet will merely represent a minuscule portion of the entire game world.
Despite the Trosky map being touted as the smaller component, the overall size of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be significant, nearly twice that of its predecessor. This mammoth world, coupled with a script reportedly longer than that of Baldur’s Gate 3, indicates high demands for PC specifications.
February is set to be an exciting month for gamers, with major releases like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Monster Hunter Wilds showcasing vast open worlds, while Obsidian’s Avowed will explore smaller map configurations as part of its narrative layout.
