Since starting his solo career, former TREASURE member Bang Yedam has been creating a buzz in the K-pop industry.
In August 2023, Bang Yedam signed with GF Entertainment to continue his pursuit of music production, after departing from TREASURE and YG Entertainment in November 2022.
His musical journey reached a significant milestone with the release of his mini-album “Only One”in November 2023, marking his solo debut.
During an interview with MK Sports, Bang Yedam revealed the factors that led to his departure from YG Entertainment. He shared that being constantly referred to as “Bang Yedam’s group”within TREASURE added a lot of pressure on him, making it a heavy burden to bear.
Upon reflection, he expressed, “I must admit, it was somewhat of a weight on my shoulders to have TREASURE known as the ‘Bang Yedam group.’ With such a large number of members, I felt a great sense of pressure and accountability to have my name linked to the entire group.”
Despite the obstacles he encountered, Bang Yedam now feels a sense of freedom as a solo artist, eagerly embracing the fresh challenges that come with being fully involved in the creation of his music. He made it clear that there are no negative feelings between him and his former TREASURE bandmates, emphasizing their ongoing communication and mutual support.
Recently, I have been occupied with putting together our album, so I haven’t been able to connect with my fellow TREASURE members as frequently. However, they have been incredibly supportive of my work and make sure to reach out and check on me.
Additionally, Bang Yedam’s strong connections with AKMU’s Lee Chanhyuk and Suhyun remain intact, as they have consistently shown their unwavering support for him. As he begins a new phase in his musical career, Bang Yedam’s commitment to his craft and the strong bond he shares with his peers remain evident.
Currently, Bang Yedam is putting all of his attention on his solo endeavors. His most recent release, “Officially Cool,”which features WINTER from aespa, has been highly praised for their vocal abilities and the infectious melody that portrays the theme of reconciling after a breakup.
The partnership with WINTER has been a standout experience for Bang Yedam, motivating him to expand his musical boundaries and demonstrate his versatility as an artist.
During a recent interview with NYLON Manila, BANG YEDAM shared his admiration for WINTER, commending her perfect skills and stating that she perfectly embodies the vibe of the track. Despite an initial awkwardness on set, the chemistry between the two artists was evident as they filmed the music video.
Filipino fans are eagerly anticipating BANG YEDAM’s first fan meeting in Manila on June 1, causing excitement to grow. BANG YEDAM is excited to fully experience Filipino culture and is particularly looking forward to sampling local delicacies, including a trip to the famous Jollibee for their renowned hamburgers.
