As the Jujutsu Kaisen manga approaches its conclusion, the long-awaited mysteries are finally revealed. One of the biggest curiosities for fans has been the Domain Expansion of the main protagonist, Yuji Itadori. In chapter 264, their curiosity was finally satisfied as Yuji unveiled his domain expansion.
The unveiling of Yuji’s Domain Expansion foreshadowed the conclusion of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. Let’s take a closer look at what we have learned about Yuji Itadori’s Domain Expansion.
Exploring Yuji Itadori’s Domain Expansion
Finally, in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 264, Yuji Itadori’s Domain Expansion was finally unveiled as he utilized it in his battle against Sukuna. His practice sessions with Atsuya Kusakabe proved to be beneficial in honing his understanding of barriers.
Yuji’s domain expansion resembled a bustling train station as he delved into his memories. He brought Sukuna along for a journey through his childhood recollections, pointing out the various places he had visited and sharing anecdotes about them. The two of them bonded over fishing and conversation, until Sukuna grew restless and impatient.
Despite the lack of information on Yuji’s domain expansion and its complexities, it was clear that he used it with precision to protect Megumi while trapping Sukuna within it. He saw an opportunity to speak with Sukuna, expressing his sympathy towards the King of Curses.
We suspect that the domain that was revealed may not be the entirety of its power, but just a glimpse of what it can do. Despite not knowing the full extent of his domain’s abilities, Yuji was still able to confidently trap Sukuna within it. Fans can anticipate learning more about Yuji’s domain in the upcoming chapters.
Yuji’s Hand Sign
Yuji’s domain expansion had another remarkable aspect that caught the attention of fans – his hand sign. It was similar to Sukuna’s, representing Yama, the King of Hell. However, Yuji’s hand sign was that of Ksitigarbha, a revered bodhisattva in East Asian Buddhism. In Japan, Ksitigarbha is also known as Jizo Bodhisattva and is often referred to as the Earth womb, symbolizing Yuji as a vessel. This further adds to the brilliance of Yuji’s domain expansion.
Yuji’s mudra (hand sign) is that of Ksitigarbha, a boddhisatva that guides others to “enlightment” before he does. this is the perfect mudra for Yuji, as Ksitigarbha didn’t want to attain the chance to become a Buddha until all “hells” are purified. Ksithigarbha’s reputation stemmed from his decision to delay becoming a Buddha until he had purified hell, solidifying his role as a guardian figure akin to Yuji. Throughout the story, Yuji consistently showed compassion for those in need, even in their final moments, mirroring Ksithigarbha’s actions. This could potentially hint at Yuji’s ability to purify hell or defeat Sukuna, as the manga approaches its conclusion.
