The second episode of Failure Frame opened with Touka Mimori pondering the outcome of continuing to cast spells even after depleting his additional MP. In an attempt to immobilize the Minotaur once more, he discovered that he could not repeatedly use a status effect on a single target. As an alternative, he used sleep and then poison, verifying that he could apply multiple effects simultaneously.

He realized he had run out of MP when a group of new bird-like enemies closed in on him. He quickly paralyzed all of them, but as more enemies appeared, he began to feel weak. Despite this, he kept casting spells until the intense pain reached his mental threshold. Just when he thought he couldn’t go on, he suddenly leveled up from level 1 to 258, and his MP was restored. The unexpected increase in experience points was thanks to the first bird-like enemy he had encountered, which had succumbed to the poison.

In the second episode of Failure Frame, his skills leveled up and he gained the ability to designate multiple targets with one cast. Touka also noticed that his inflictions had a range and decided to experiment with what could be considered “spamming”an ailment. He used this knowledge to inflict poison on all the monsters in the area, which led to him gaining levels upwards of 500 as they perished one by one.

Despite facing challenges with food, he managed to survive by scavenging what he could from the monsters. In an unexpected turn of events, he was able to summon a soda and beef jerky from his bag, although he couldn’t comprehend how it had happened. As time passed, several days went by and Touka had already faced off against a large group of reptilian monsters, including a dragon.

In episode 2 of Failure Frame, Touka expressed regret over the violence he had to use against the monsters. However, he later recalled his childhood with his parents and how it shaped his current actions. As he continued through the Ruins of Disposal, Touka encountered a strange, eyeball-shaped foe and remarked on the stark contrast in atmosphere after defeating it.

After stumbling upon a magical gem embedded in a door, he infused it with his own magic, granting him access to the next level. As he explored the area, he encountered the remains of two adventurers who had chosen to perish in an embrace, having given up on their quest and fallen in love. Touka continued his search through the other rooms and eventually stumbled upon the body of Anglin the Great Sage, also known as Anglin, the Hero of Darkness.

In the second episode of Failure Frame, Touka recalled Vicius mentioning that one of their classmates possessed the same magic as him. Upon finding a note left by Anglin, it was revealed that Vicius had exiled him to their current location, deeming him unnecessary and a nuisance. Touka expressed her anger towards Vicius, referring to him, herself, and their summoned enemy as evil.

After discovering a Forbidden Arts spellbook and scrolls of Forbidden Magic on Anglin’s body, he also came across a note inside the book that mentioned a Soul Eater. This creature appeared briefly and then vanished. Touka believed he found a way to the surface, but realized it was missing a key.

In the second episode of Failure Frame, Touka questioned his ability to defeat the Soul Eater when even Anglin couldn’t do it. After finally locating the Soul Eater and the key to the door on its forehead, Touka attempted to attack but was swiftly countered by the creature. As he contemplated his next move, the Soul Eater made its first move by breaking free from the wall and advancing towards Touka.

At the entrance of the door Touka was desperately trying to open, the Elven girl from the previous episode was spotted hiding. The Soul Eater, in a sudden move, spewed out a pink substance that created several foot soldiers for Touka to battle. The Soul Eater then trapped Touka in a corner, revealing its open eyes. Despite attempting to attack the foot soldiers, Touka couldn’t bring herself to harm them as they were eerily reminiscent of real humans.

In episode 2 of Failure Frame, Touka found himself surrounded by a group of foot soldiers as the Soul Eater gleefully tormented him. Little did they know, Touka had devised a plan to catch the Soul Eater off guard. He quickly used his paralyzing abilities to immobilize the Soul Eater and took the opportunity to express his frustration with always trying to be kind. As he spoke, he also neutralized all of the monsters that the Soul Eater had created.

After successfully poisoning the Soul Eater, he was able to kill it and escape from the Ruins of Disposal. As a result, the souls of all the victims that the Soul Eater had claimed materialized and expressed their gratitude and congratulations for his triumph. Touka was then approached by Anglin, who urged her to “get that Goddess,”referring to Vicius. It seemed as though he was speaking on behalf of all the souls before they disappeared. The episode concluded with Touka officially stepping out of the ruins.

In review

“One of the main strengths of Failure Frame episode 2 is its unique protagonist, setting it apart from other isekai series. While most isekai stories feature main characters who are either inherently good or reluctantly forced to do good, Touka stands out as a potentially evil and manipulative lead.”

Furthermore, the second episode’s revelation about his aunt and uncle attempting to present him with a “better life”elucidates the false persona he has been trying to maintain for a long time. This subtle yet impactful detail emphasizes the fact that in this universe, viewers are finally getting a glimpse of the real Touka and his true character.

In summation

Following Touka’s successful escape from the Ruins of Disposal in Failure Frame episode 2, it is expected that the third episode will feature his encounter with the Elven girl mentioned earlier. It is highly likely that the two will discover a shared objective, possibly centered around eliminating the Goddess, solidifying their alliance for the rest of their journey.
