Following their victory against the Water Dragon God, the residents of Ermina wasted no time in starting to rebuild their town. Natsu and Happy observed from a nearby cliff, where Natsu admitted that he couldn’t recall much after consuming Ignia’s fire. However, Happy comforted him by reminding him that he had said both peculiar and usual things during that period.

Despite being scolded by Lucy, Natsu is warned that he must control himself in order to avoid losing control again when consuming flames. Lucy also holds him responsible for burning her chest, even though Wendy had already healed her. After Happy reveals that Lucy was the one who brought Natsu back to his senses, he apologizes. As they feel the breeze, they are hopeful that the town will be able to recover.

In the meantime, Gray and the rest of the group clarify to the townspeople that they were originally human and that their fish-like appearances were a product of the Water Dragon God’s enchantment, which enabled them to reside beneath the water. The townspeople, moved by their protector’s compassion, feel sorrowful as they remember his defeat, believing he had gone on a destructive rampage in anger.

Karameel explains that the Water Dragon God was not angry, but rather filled with sadness as he was being manipulated by a force stronger than him. To the delight of the townspeople, the Water Dragon God, Mercphobia, makes an appearance. However, he confesses that his magic has weakened, leaving him essentially human.

Despite the sadness felt by the people upon hearing this news, Mercphobia reassures them that it is for the best as he wishes to join them and live among them. The townspeople erupt in cheers as Natsu and his group make their arrival, and Lucy remarks that their mission has been successfully accomplished.

While at Magia Dragon, Elefseria notices a mural where the jewel in the center is glowing and the image of Mercphobia is fading. The elderly mage is taken aback by the defeat of one of the Five Dragon Gods and ponders if this means that the 100-year quest is finally coming to an end.

Natsu’s team informs Mercphobia and Karameel about the arrival of Ignia, a powerful Fire Dragon. To their astonishment, Mercphobia reveals that Ignia is one of the Five Dragon Gods and the son of Igneel. This revelation surprises the group, but it also clarifies how the Fire Dragon God was familiar with Natsu.

Mercphobia, who knows that Natsu was brought up by Igneel, assumes that this is the reason why Ignia has personally arrived. He cautions them that Ignia, just like the other Dragon Gods, is too powerful for them to conquer. Nevertheless, Natsu and his companions remain resolute in their mission.

Gray asks about the other Dragon Gods, to which Mercphobia reveals his knowledge. Aldoron, the Wood Dragon God, is known for its immense size and ability to read minds. Selene, the Moon Dragon God, possesses the power of the stars, while Viernes, the Gold Dragon God, remains an enigma to even Mercphobia.

Wendy inquires about the origins of the Dragon Gods’ title, wondering why they were referred to as such even though they did not bestow it upon themselves. Mercphobia clarifies that the title was bestowed upon them by humans, who feared their immense power and regarded them as gods, regardless of their actions. Karameel further explains that humans have a tendency to worship beings they fear, whether they are benevolent or malevolent.

However, Mercphobia assures her that the outcome is positive – the calamity has ended, the town is being rebuilt, and life continues. He asks her to call him Merc, to which she tearfully agrees.

They make a collective decision to board a train at the nearby town, Tekka. As they settle down for the night and set up camp, Lucy takes out her journal and contemplates their upcoming encounter with the Wood Dragon God Aldoron.

Despite her fears of Natsu losing control again from consuming Ignia’s fire, Lucy is surprised when he peeks into her tent, resulting in a scolding from her. The next morning, the boys find humor in Natsu’s prank on the sleeping girls, causing Erza to angrily chase after him.
