Professional League of Legends player and mid laner for T1, Faker, recently faced a peculiar matchmaking issue that landed him in Iron lobbies while practicing in EUW.
The 2024 League of Legends World Championship is currently taking place in Europe, showcasing elite players from around the world to determine which team reigns supreme. This prestigious annual event attracts teams globally, all traveling internationally to showcase their best strategies and skills.
Successful preparation for such a high-stakes tournament involves a variety of factors, including adapting to timezone changes and consistently grinding in solo queue to enhance their mechanical skills. Given the fierce competition, even top-tier players must continually practice to maintain their edge.
Among these players is Hall of Legends competitor T1 Faker, who has been honing his skills in normal games on EUW. Surprisingly, Riot Games’ matchmaking system had different plans for him, placing him in matches against players from the lowest rank.

Faker has been playing several games in the normal queue on Europe West and has encountered some unusual matchmaking. He even ended up in a match with an Iron II player, which is among the lowest ranks in League of Legends.
Unsurprisingly, Faker quickly dominated these matches, accumulating numerous kills with ease.
In general, League of Legends accounts possess both a normal and ranked matchmaking rating (MMR). Therefore, in theory, Faker should be placed in matches with a much higher skill level. However, since this is a Riot-provided account for EUW servers, it’s likely that it hasn’t had sufficient time to adjust to the matchmaking system, resulting in this stark imbalance.
The Worlds tournament is still ongoing, and you can catch all the thrilling matches on the official LoL Esports website.
