Riot Games has revealed that Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok will be the inaugural inductee into the Hall of Legends.
On January 4, 2024, Riot announced the creation of the Hall of Legends, which is League’s equivalent of a Hall of Fame. They also stated their plans to induct players into it within the year.
Faker’s potential induction into the Hall of Legends has long been a topic of speculation, and Riot’s recent confirmation has put an end to the debate. According to the developer, Faker’s unwavering commitment to LoL, game-changing strategies, and numerous international and domestic victories have earned him a spot in the prestigious Hall.
According to John Needham, President of Esports at Riot Games, Faker is undeniably the most legendary and impactful figure in League of Legends and esports history. His name is synonymous with greatness in LoL Esports, making him a deserving recipient of the prestigious title as our very first Hall of Legends inductee.
A group of esports industry veterans and experts from all regions selected Faker to join the Hall of Legends. The South Korean superstar will be awarded a trophy during his induction ceremony.
The player will be honored with a special in-game event that will include cosmetic items and a unique “art piece”showcasing his greatest achievements throughout his career.
The event will offer an event pass that allows players to acquire cosmetics by participating in the game, and further details about the event will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Despite attempts to keep it a secret, information was leaked that Faker would be honored in the Hall of Legends. A trailer and special Ahri skin were revealed, further adding to the hype surrounding the event. Rumors indicate that the patch featuring the Faker tribute will be released as 14.11, with a possible release date of May 29.
According to a Riot press release, Faker and T1 will also be entitled to a portion of the revenue generated from the sale of passes and bundles.
Faker’s induction into the Hall of Fame occurred shortly after T1’s impressive performance at the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational, where they were considered one of the top teams. However, they were ultimately defeated by Bilibil Gaming in the second round of the Bracket Stage and were eliminated in the losers’ finals by the same Chinese team.
