Fallout 4’s PlayStation Users Left Angry and Confused by Next-Gen Update

The long-awaited next-gen update for Fallout 4 has arrived, but PlayStation 5 players were disappointed and bewildered by the unusual limitations regarding upgrade options.

The highly anticipated next-gen update for Fallout 4 has finally been released, and the initial response from fans has been a mixture of reactions.

Despite the update causing frustration for PC players with broken modded save files, PS5 owners were perplexed by the unclear limitations surrounding their choices for upgrading.

As reported by IGN, players who obtained Fallout 4 through the PS Plus Extra tier or the now-defunct PS Plus Collection were unable to receive the next-gen update for free.

Of course, this caused a lot of frustration among players as these upgrade path issues were not experienced on other platforms.

One fan shared, “I have purchased Fallout 4 on three separate occasions since its release. Most recently, I obtained it through PS Plus because I own a digital PS5 and cannot use my physical disk. I kindly request that the PS Plus version be made updatable. I do not want to spend another £16 on a game that I have already bought twice.”

A different Fallout 4 player reported that they were unable to access the free upgrade on PS5, even though they owned the PS4 Standard edition. This was because they had mistakenly downloaded the PS+ version of the game.

In response to fan backlash and confusion on social media, Bethesda’s official X account clarified with a statement that the free Fallout 4 next-gen update will be accessible to PlayStation Plus Extra members through the PlayStation Game Catalog. The team acknowledges the confusion and asks for patience as they continue to work on this update.

As of this moment, it remains uncertain when this change will take place and whether it will impact individuals who own the game through the PS Plus Collection. It should be noted that this statement does not address the Premium Tier on PS Plus, which may lead to some confusion.

Hopefully, Bethesda will provide more clarification on the situation in the near future.
