According to Windows Central reporter Jez Corden, Microsoft plans to launch the highly-anticipated Fallout 5 game at a much quicker pace than expected by fans.
In a 2022 interview with IGN, Todd Howard, the producer of Bethesda Game Studios, disclosed that the development of Elder Scrolls 6 had already begun. According to Howard, the team’s next project will be Fallout 5, following the completion of the Elder Scrolls adventure.
The FTC v. Microsoft case documents provided additional information through a Microsoft chart that indicated a projected release date of 2026 or beyond for the new Elder Scrolls game. As a result, it is possible that the anticipated fifth installment of the Fallout series may be delayed even further.
Despite the fact that Amazon’s Fallout TV show has sparked renewed interest in the post-apocalyptic RPG series, reports suggest that Microsoft plans to release another Fallout game sooner than initially planned.
According to comments made by Jez Corden on episode 313 of the Xbox Two podcast, Windows Central has reported that plans are being developed to bring the next installment of Fallout to us in a timely manner. Although the details are scarce, there is ongoing discussion about whether we will see the new Fallout game within this decade.
“I believe that we will indeed see a release of Fallout. The situation is a bit unique because the developer already has the Starfield engine and just needs to create assets for it. My suggestion is that Obsidian will be responsible for building it. It is clear that the developer understands the urgency to not take too much time with this project. This is the overall plan and we can expect a release in the near future.”
Despite the lack of evidence, Corden’s claims strongly imply that Fallout 5 may be released before the end of the decade… And the hints about a new Fallout game don’t stop there.
During the April 29 episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Todd Howard from Bethesda hinted that there may be two upcoming Fallout projects in the works.
During a casual discussion about their future plans, Howard playfully hinted, “We reflect on our progress with the [Fallout] franchise and ask ourselves, ‘Are we still confident about – I can’t disclose it yet – but this is our plan for the future of the Fallout series.’”
The speaker then discussed numerous Fallout projects, including a few that have not yet been announced. He expressed his desire for the team’s hard work to produce immediate results, asking about the release of Season 2, plans for mobile, and updates for Fallout 76. He also mentioned other projects in the works and emphasized the importance of delivering them at a high standard. While he would like to see them all released instantly, quality remains the top priority.
Howard’s comment mentioning “this thing… and this other thing”seems to allude to two undisclosed projects related to the Fallout brand.
The property has a history of experimenting with various mediums and genres, so if this is considered a hint, fans should not necessarily expect Bethesda-style RPGs.
