Fallout From Taeil’s Removal From NCT: Cancellation of Members’ Schedules

On August 29th, reports from the industry revealed that NCT’s Jaehyun, who had recently released his solo debut album “J”on August 26th, had his fan signing event, which was supposed to take place on the same day, postponed indefinitely. This postponement occurred after the news of Taeil’s indictment became public, leading fellow NCT members Mark and Haechan to cancel their scheduled video call fan signing event the day before.

Despite being the eldest and main vocalist of NCT’s unit NCT 127, Taeil was unable to participate in activities for a period of time after getting into a motorcycle accident in August of last year on his way home. During concerts, his fellow NCT 127 members often mentioned and expressed their longing for him, but ultimately, Taeil’s accident had a negative impact on the group’s overall dynamic.

After being expelled from NCT the day before, Taeil experienced a swift disassociation as SM Entertainment and other NCT members quickly unfollowed his social media account.

Surprisingly, SM Entertainment is widely recognized for its leniency towards its artists, often choosing to keep them on board despite any incidents or scandals, almost as an unspoken policy. However, the swift decision by SM to expel Taeil has raised questions about the exact nature of the accusations. According to police, a report was filed in June regarding Taeil’s alleged involvement in a sexual offense, resulting in his booking.

Despite NCT’s rise to become SM’s leading boy group, their dedicated fanbase known as NCTzen were left shocked upon hearing the news of Taeil’s expulsion. Initially, the group’s technology-driven concept was perceived as complicated, leading to a slow start in gaining attention. However, their exceptional talent and strong bonds with fans eventually earned them recognition and a huge following. The news of Taeil’s alleged involvement in a sexual crime has left fans, who were fond of his gentle persona, particularly stunned.

Despite receiving major awards at multiple ceremonies, NCT 127’s reputation has been tarnished due to Taeil’s actions, causing fans to feel even more disheartened on top of their initial disappointment.

Taeil joined NCT in 2016 as a member of both NCT 127 and NCT U. With his departure, the overall count of NCT members has decreased from 26 to 25.
