FIFTY FIFTY once again met the negative public gaze after the abundant PRICE of their dorm was revealed. How different were they treated compared to famous girl groups before as rookies?
FIFTY FIFTY Criticized Anew for Being ‘Ungrateful’ After Dorm’s Price Gets Revealed
FIFTY FIFTY, a “miracle”group from the small/medium-sized company ATTRAKT, left people raising their brows after “betraying”the label.
Earlier, they decided to demand contract termination with their agency, citing “opaque settlement”and “incompetence”as the reasons.
The quartet claimed that ATTRAKT pushed ahead with their schedules even though a member was undergoing a difficult health condition and complained about the non-transparent settlement and activities. They also accused the label of failing to fulfill its contractual obligations.
Fans quickly supported FIFTY FIFTY, but the Korean general public was skeptical about the accusations given that they were asking for a salary less than a year after their debut with only 1 hit song.
People also questioned the allegation of being incompetent. Contrary to their claims, the agency’s CEO reportedly sold his Rolex watch, car and invested up to 90 million won (about $69,135) for the group, which his 90-year-old mother saved for life. This is to note that they weren’t popular at the time.
In a recent report, it was also revealed that the quartet lived comfortably in good accommodation located in Gangnam, with three rooms and two bathrooms. Despite coming from a barely surviving label, the dorm’s rent was worth 3.3 million KRW per month and was provided to them.
Famous Girl Groups’ Dorms As Rookies Re-Examined
Amid this report, people re-examined the past accommodations of top girl groups when they were still rookies. Compared to the spacious three-bedroom accommodation of FIFTY FIFTY, which only has four members, the situation of rookie girl groups in the past was surprisingly poor.
GFRIEND, which had six members, once lived in an old narrow apartment with two bunk beds. They could barely move around freely.
LOVELYZ’s situation was no different as despite having eight members, they only slept in a small room with no proper furniture or bed. All of them tried to fit themselves when sleeping on the floor, along with their wardrobe.
But talking about the girl group that endured it worst was SECRET, where the members lived in a semi-basement room.
The four members’ beds were placed together and ate up all the room’s space. They didn’t have any receiving area inside. As there were no curtains, the members attached the foil to the window.
Even NewJeans, who is a five-member girl group under the biggest K-pop company HYBE, confessed that the members live in a two-room accommodation only.
Hearing this, FIFTY FIFTY continuously garners criticism for “betraying”the company despite its efforts to provide them with better treatment.
