Wang Yibo, a popular Chinese idol and actor, first made his debut in 2014 as a member of the K-pop group UNIQ. However, he has since shifted his focus to the Chinese entertainment industry and gained widespread recognition for his role as the lead in the 2019 drama “The Untamed.”
Recently, images of Wang Yibo from his upcoming film “Formed Police Unit”were unveiled. The movie centers around a police unit conducting peacekeeping operations.
The film featured numerous characters, including Wang Yibo, who were required to adopt disguises in order to blend in with the local population during their team’s mission in Africa.
Therefore, Wang Yibo’s character donned dreadlocks and had his skin painted brown, essentially depicting blackface – a highly offensive act towards black individuals due to its problematic history and discriminatory connotation.
It is a widely known fact that numerous other cast members also followed suit and behaved similarly while working with black actors.
The crew’s decision to wear blackface has sparked outrage among international fans, with many describing it as “revolting”and “racial hostility”.
YEAH NO we need to sit down and have a serious conversation about east asian media participating in forms of racial hostility that doesnt even originate from there bc WHY is a famous chinese celeb performing actual BLACK FACE in 2024???!! https://t.co/j0ZbNBeH1P pic.twitter.com/sAW4yKorbl

Nevertheless, others argued that the film accurately depicted a genuine United Nations peacekeeping mission that had used a similar disguise, staying true to its source material.
