Famous US Comedian Makes Light of BTS Suga’s Drunk-Driving Incident

A recent clip from “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” has gained traction on social media, primarily due to its discussion of BTS member Suga’s incident involving drunk driving.

The video features the well-known comedian Stephen Colbert, who typically addresses US-centric news and political topics, as he explores global stories in the segment titled “What’s Going On Over There?” This portion of the show often highlights international news that may come across as unusual or surprising to American viewers.

During the segment, Colbert referenced Suga’s apology for operating an electric scooter while under the influence, which resulted in a fine of 5 million won (approximately 11,200 USD). He also expressed his astonishment at the requirement for a license to operate scooters in Korea.

“Hold on, Koreans need a license to operate one of these things?… That is… Good for you, South Korea,” Colbert remarked.

The audience responded with laughter, finding the whole situation quite absurd.

While the topic was treated humorously, BTS fans largely share the opinion that it’s ludicrous for Suga to face backlash over scootering. It’s worth noting that such incidents are taken seriously in South Korea, where electric scooters have been linked to several fatalities. Suga’s blood alcohol content was reported at 0.227%, a significant level that would warrant the revocation of driving privileges.
