After years of being a popular meme and inside joke among fans, Winton has finally made its way into the game as a playable character in Overwatch 2.
In 2016, Blizzard released a seemingly innocent plushie of Winston in their merch store. Little did they know, this would lead to the creation of one of the most beloved memes in the community.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding its origins, Winton became a beloved running joke within my community when Overwatch 2 was released in 2022, accompanied by numerous memes.
It’s unlikely that you will find an Overwatch fan who doesn’t intentionally mispronounce the scientist gorilla’s name as a nod to the meme. However, after many years of inside jokes, the beloved “derpy”version of Winston has finally been officially included in the game.

During a Season 10 Battle Pass showcase by popular Overwatch YouTuber Hoshizora, fans were quick to catch the appearance of our beloved Winton.
Players who reach Tier 12 of the Premium Battle Pass will receive a Winton as a reward, which can be used in-game as a souvenir. This allows players to use Winton as an emote for any hero of their choice.
Despite being released in 2016, the original Winton plushie can be difficult to come by nowadays as it is no longer available for purchase on the Overwatch merch store.
If you have missed out on getting a real-life Winton, you can still get an in-game version to satisfy your craving.
