New screenshots for The Sims: Project Rene have emerged from a “small-scale playtest,” and the response from fans has been largely negative.
Before EA confirmed that Project Rene is not The Sims 5 and will include multiplayer features, multiple leaks circulated within the community, hinting at what the game could potentially offer—one notable example being the leaked map.
Recently, fresh images showcasing EA’s ongoing project surfaced, revealing various game elements, including UI, characters, outfits, and gameplay mechanics.
According to the leaker who shared these images, the game featured “a small-scale playtest” with a “basic Live Mode” section.

One immediate observation is the graphics, which the leaker noted appeared “genuinely” grainy. They did emphasize, however, that it’s common for optimization to be one of the last stages of game development and indicated that performance seems prioritized over visual clarity.
From the leaked images, it appears that Sims can already choose presets and complete a “To-do list” to earn rewards. The list includes various tasks, such as meeting new people, purchasing outfits, and more.
Regarding cosmetic options, the outfits seem obtainable via in-game currency, as seen with price tags displayed in the screenshots.
The leaker explained that this playtest focused on “a very small portion of the whole game,” suggesting that some features were missing. Following this reveal, players have expressed their frustrations, as highlighted in a Reddit thread.
One user likened it to The Sims Mobile, arguing it’s “the same just with fewer features.” They elaborated, “You can work in a coffee shop and buy new outfits. It seems it’ll essentially be the same setup, just maybe a bit different.”
Other comments included, “I know it’s still early, but this is heading to be a panned mess. It looks and sounds awful and reminds me of The Sims mobile game.” A frustrated fan stated, “I love The Sims, but what the f*** is this abomination?”
