Netflix’s upcoming One Piece remake is currently in the works and recent updates have confirmed that it will include a major change from the original series, much to the delight of fans.
The One Piece is a highly anticipated anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s well-known manga, which chronicles the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy as he navigates the treacherous Grand Line. Luffy’s ultimate goal is to become the King of the Pirates, and along the way, he forms a diverse crew, each with their own individual ambitions on the perilous sea.
The annual One Piece Day celebration was observed on August 10 and 11, where fans were treated to concept art and character designs. The studio also announced that the team behind Attack on Titan will be involved in its production. While the original version had undergone changes and modifications, the upcoming remake will adhere more closely to Oda’s original vision as depicted in the manga.
One instance of this is when the anime altered Zeff’s scene. In the manga, Zeff consumes his leg to prevent himself from starving to death, while the anime portrays him cutting off his leg to rescue Sanji. However, fans who compared the concept art noticed that the anime version is more graphic than the original.

A well-known One Piece account, Pew Piece, shared on Twitter/X that the upcoming One Piece remake will stay true to the manga and will not be censored like the original Toei version. This will allow Oda’s darker vision to be fully portrayed in the WIT anime.
Devoted fans are pleased with the change, as one fan states, “This is fantastic news! The remake will remain faithful to Oda’s original, darker vision without any censorship.”
“According to another, the reason for this is because the show will not be broadcasted on television. While TV broadcasts require censorship of blood, streaming platforms have more freedom in terms of content.”
Furthermore, a different fan expresses, “Once we witness the Zeff eating his leg scene, it will be amusing to observe those who have only seen the Toei anime claim that ‘it was altered’ as they did with the live action.”
