Actress Xochitl Gomez, also known as America Chavez, has recently graduated and Marvel fans are ecstatic.
Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in existence for almost 20 years and has featured numerous portrayals of teenagers and young children on screen, the majority of actors were already adults by the time they joined the MCU, if not just barely.
At the time of filming Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland was only 19 years old, while Iman Vellani was 18 during the production of Ms Marvel. Despite their young ages, the emergence of these new Marvel stars has captured the attention of many.
On May 27, Xochitl Gomez announced on Instagram that she had graduated from high school. She also posted a throwback photo from her childhood Yearbook to showcase her journey and growth.
Many fans have come to the realization that Xochitl was very young when she made her MCU debut in Doctor Strange: Multitude of Madness, now that the 18-year-old actress has achieved this significant milestone in her life.
At only fourteen years old during filming, most people were left speechless by her exceptional maturity. A Reddit thread was promptly created for fans to express their surprise at her young age.
“A fan exclaimed, “I knew she was young, but I didn’t realize she was THAT young.”
A different fan also added, “I had no clue she was really a child. I assumed she was at least college-aged.”
“It is refreshing to see that current shows and movies are casting real teenagers for teenage roles instead of using 30-year-olds, as highlighted by another Reddit user.”
Following her victory in Season 32 of Dancing With The Stars and being awarded the coveted mirrorball trophy, it remains to be seen what project Xochitl will undertake next. It could potentially involve another MCU film, furthering her education in college, or pursuing something entirely different. We can expect to learn more in the near future.
